From the Office
Happy New Year to you all! I hope you have enjoyed the holidays with family and friends, creating new memories and delighting in the joys of the season through the eyes of your children.
Please accept my gratitude for your support of our toy and food drive, as well as cash donations for a number of our East City families during the recent holiday season. Together with our staff, we helped make the holidays a little bit happier for many. On behalf of all the recipients, thank you for your various donations, kindness, care and generosity. We have a wonderful community and our students, staff and parents are an important force behind this! Thanks also for the monetary donations at our school concerts which raised over $300 for our school's nutrition program. This money will be put to good use for our students who partake in the breakfast program and/or the healthy snack bins during the course of the day.
December was an exceptional month at King George and we commend all of our students and staff for the incredible involvement and holiday spirt demonstrated through concerts, door decorating, gingerbread decorating, the toy and food drive, and various excursions! Please follow us on twitter @KingGeorge_KPR to keep up to date with current happenings at King George. Our students have much to be proud of and I enjoy highlighting many of these experiences on twitter, and we know that 2019 will have continued opportunities for all to shine!
On behalf of everyone at King George, we hope our #EastCityCommunity has a healthy and adventurous 2019 ahead! The New Year provides amazing opportunities for students to try new things, including break dancing coming in January, and of course approach learning in the classroom with a refreshed lens.
It is truly a pleasure working with such a supportive community and we look forward to seeing everyone on January 7th.
Take care,
Mrs. Masterson

Community Information Session - KG move to Ridpath for 2019/20 School Year
Before the holidays, students were provided with a second letter and comprehensive Q&A regarding King George and the 2019/20 school year.
Interested parents and guardians from the East City community are invited to attend an additional information meeting on Thursday, January 10th at King George in the gym at 6:00 pm. Feedback that is provided through the information meeting, and through online submissions, will be considered and summarized within a final report by administration.
Administration will then present its recommended plan, including background information and rationale on all other options that have been considered, to the Regular Meeting of the school board on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Education Centre located at 1994 Fisher Drive, Peterborough.
The full board of Trustees will then make a final decision on any course of action on this matter. Please also continue to visit the board website; www.kprschools.ca
School Council's New Year Message
Happy New Year to you all from School Council. Last year as a council we accomplished a lot of wonderful events from the Winter Fair to cookie decorating in the gym. We also supported various fundraisers including Fresh from the Farm, Poinsettias and PJ Day. I would like to thank everybody who was involved in making these things happen. By holding these events we are able to support classrooms with trips and on site learning. This January, we have already paid for Jimmy the Break Dancer to come to school which we know the students will love.
Our next council is January 17th at 6.30 in the library. If you would like to come out and join us, please know you are very welcome. We look forward to what this year has to bring for our students.

School Council Chair
Reminder about NO NUTS & Lunch Information
Let's start the new year with a friendly reminder about ensuring no products with nuts come to school. We have a number of students with severe allergies, and we appreciate careful attention to this.
With regards to lunches should buses be cancelled to King George on a Pizza Day, Pita or East Side Marios Day, the food will be provided on the following day. Please note that should your child be absent on any regular pizza, pita, or East Side Marios lunch day, you may call the school and request to pick up your child’s lunch. Lunches cannot be held over at the school due to health reasons. Also, please send in/use separate payments for each order (e.g., Please DO NOT send in one cheque for combined money owing for Pizza, Pita & East Side Marios). Thanks!
