COLLIER ADULT EDUCATION
Tuesday, October 2, 2018
Message from the Leadership Team.
Last week we had twenty instructors participate in the 2018 ACE of Florida Conference here in Naples. Dr. Patton kicked off the conference with her welcoming remarks highlighting the great success that Collier County Schools have had, the future development of a four county educational center and wowing the audience with her comment as a past GED teacher understanding the value of the work we do everyday. Her comments ending with the theme of this years conference Empowering The Workforce Through Adult Education. The sessions highlighted the main theme we continue to work towards - student retention, student engagement and transitioning students to the workforce.

ESOL Instructor Resources
After our Teacher Professional Development Day for the full-time instructors, we came back with 20 instructional strategies to use in our classrooms. I had many take aways, but this is a favorite of mine.
Having A Positive Environment-teacher standing at the door smiling and greeting students, asking them about their weekends, complimenting them on some positive aspect of their lives. "Did you know that the word SMILE is a mnemonic device which stands for Show Me I'm Loved Everyday!"
When you walk into the classroom, there should be the feeling of enthusiasm and optimism. This goes back to the Basic Community Building in your classroom! Which should promote good attendance!
