Happy New Year!

I hope you had a great break and are rested and ready to go! I'm sure our kiddos are ready to get back into their school routine! The next two months always seem like "pockets of learning" with all of the holidays, shortened weeks and potential snow days! Let's make every minute count with our children! Here's to a great first week of 2016!

Clothes Needed in the Clinic

The clinic is very low on boys/girls pants and underwear. If you go through your children's old clothes to make room for the new ones please consider donating to the clinic. We are in need of 4T-8 especially. Thanks for any donations.

Common Plan Times

Our next whole group meeting will take place on January 15 @ 8:10. Please come to that meeting with your 3-5 prioritized standards and the green, blue and orange boxes completed on the google doc.

I started a folder within our "2015 Staff Meetings/Information" for our "Instructional Design Frameworks". Please remember to make a copy of the template and don't type on someone else's document. I think you should be able to manipulate things in there...but let me know if there seems to be a glitch.

As of today, we've read through page 23. Please continue reading through page 40 so that when we meet on the 15th, we can start tackling the performance and student friendly scales together. This next step is going to take us a little longer to complete, but we'll get there!

Updated Recess and Lunch Duties

I have updated our recess and lunch duty schedule. A hard copy has been placed in everyone's mailboxes. Please note, I have marked a lead recess/lunch monitor for each block of time. The office will decide if we are indoor/outdoor as well as blacktop only. The Lead Recess Monitor will check in with the office prior to any recess with questionable weather. It is expected that when our “lead monitor” is absent, others will pitch in as well. We will take our children outside as much as we can unless the windchill is extreme. Please jot a note in your newsletters for parents to dress their child appropriately each day. Don't forget...we also have a pile of coats, gloves, hats and scarves that can be handed out too.

AESOP Information

Per Terri's email on December 23:

Just wanted to let everyone know a few things I found out about the Aesop system for reporting an absence.

1. You may list up to 5 preferences for who you would like to sub in your classroom. Those subs will receive a phone call from Aesop first before it opens up to other subs. However, this phone call is voice activated so if they don't answer the phone it will not leave a message. After so long then it will open up to other subs. These preferred subs need to be aware to check their email daily and answer the phone call.

2. The 1/2 Day AM time for a sub is now 8:40 - 11:55 and the 1/2 Day PM time is 11:55 - 3:40. This should now be corrected on Aesop. I know before it had different times listed. They will change any absences already put in the system to the correct times.

3. It is very important that you use the feedback feature to let them know how that sub did in your classroom. I believe it is a star system (1-5). This is the only way they know how that sub is doing and whether they need to have their human resources dept. talk to them.

4. You may also list exclusions of who you do not want to sub in your classroom.

5. If your preferred sub or subs are already working the day that you put your absence in they will not receive the phone call is the time conflicts with the time they are working.

6. Last minute absences will go out to all subs not just your preferences.

7. Gerry, our go to person for Aesop also told me that their is a lead time which she believes is 12 hours for our school district. This means that any absence put in 12 hours or less before the start time will go out to all subs.

I will be happy to answer any questions you might have or I will call Gerry to find out the answer. I'm sure this will be a good system once we all get used to it.

White Bags

We purchased plenty of white bags for you to use in your classrooms to store coats, scarves, hats, gloves and book bags. Please help yourself! They can be found in the supply room.

Welcome Jan Lippus

Jan Lippus will be joining our staff as a Recess/Cafeteria Aide beginning January 4! She'll be in the building from 11:00-1:00.

Kinsa Smart Thermometers

We reached of 50% participation in the FLUency program! We all will be receiving the extra bonus of a free online doctor's visit. Brochures about the extra bonus will be sent home after we return from Christmas break. Due to our participation, they've extended our deadline for anyone who hasn't redeemed their thermometers until January 31, 2016.

Please continue sharing information about our Kinsa Smart Thermometers. As of today we have 276 members in our group! Please sign up for one yourselves if you haven't done so already.
