Virtual Program Options
Art for History’s Sake
Grades: 4-7
Cost: $50
Discover how works of art reveal the story of life in 19th-century Texas. Learn to look at art through the eyes of a historian to discover why we look at art to learn about history. Students will analyze artwork to draw conclusions about the history the art is telling.
Eco-Challenge
Grades: 6-8
Cost: $50
Connect the reasons why animals compete, survive, and thrive in nature. Delve into why carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores all have a place in a balanced ecosystem. Students will investigate balanced relationships in nature and will meet one of the animals that calls the Witte’s SWBC Live Lab home.
Environmental Ethics
Grades: 9-12
Cost: $50
Delve into environmental ethics and land stewardship. What role do environmental ethics play in a building project? Be prepared to debate with your classmates over a complex issue during a “town hall” meeting to determine if a new construction project is right for the different interest groups in your simulated community.
Nature’s Network
Grades: 9-12
Cost: $50
Find your place in the food web! Animal relationships are fundamental to the success of ecosystems. This program challenges students to understand how every living and non-living thing is connected on the planet by focusing on symbiotic, taxonomic, and trophic systems.
Painting the Pecos
Grades: 4-7
Cost: $50
How did people make paint thousands of years ago? Examine the ancient techniques used while discovering more about the early inhabitants of Texas, the people of the Pecos.
Painting the Pecos (ENHANCED)
Grades: 4-7
Cost: $60 + $4 per student
How did people make paint thousands of years ago? Students will examine the ancient techniques used using their provided activity kit to make their own paint. Your class will then create a story about the land, sky, and water, much as the people of the Pecos did 4,000 years ago.
Texas Creature Features
Grades: K-2
Cost: $50
Cultivate critical thinking through an investigation of adaptation. Students will explore Texas ecosystems and make observations and hypotheses about animal features. Creature Features will surely enhance your students’ interest and knowledge of the ecologically diverse state of Texas.
Texas Rocks!
Grades: K-8
Cost: $50
Explore the natural sciences while discovering what rocks lie beneath the Texas soil and how they influence our unique landscapes. Content will vary appropriately by grade-level but will include exploration of topics such as rock classification, erosion, weathering, mineral testing, and more!
Texas Rocks! (ENHANCED)
Grades: K-8
Cost: $60 + $4 per student
Explore the natural sciences while discovering what rocks lie beneath the Texas soil and how they influence our unique landscapes. Using their provided activity kit, students will engage with different types of rocks and minerals hands-on under the guidance of a Museum Educator. Content will vary appropriately by grade-level but will include exploration of topics such as rock classification, erosion, weathering, mineral testing, and more!
Wild Habitats
Grades: 3-5
Cost: $50
Explore the distinct ecological regions of Texas and investigate how animals survive and thrive in their unique habitats. Students will examine the food web and determine how living and non-living habitat elements are interrelated.
