Tote Trays

*** Tote trays will be sent home on June 1st. ***

Please wash your child’s tote tray and return to school on June 3rd. You may hand was them or put them in the dishwasher. We would like the 1st graders next year to have a clean tote tray, just like your child did in the beginning of the year.

All grades will be sending home tote trays throughout the week.

Thank you for your cooperation!

What We're Learning

Language Arts

In Language Arts, students will practice spelling words with final stable syllable words and review over vowel diagraphs (oo, ew, ue, au, aw) prefixes re- and un-, and mulitple syllables. In grammar, we will learn adverbs that tells how review subjects and predicates. We will be reading fiction stories and poems. In writer's workshop we will revisit letter writing and write letters to second grade teachers.

Math

In math, we will teach repeated addition as multiplication and repeated subtraction as division. Students will model, create, and describe contextual multiplication and division situations in which equivalent sets of concrete objects are joined or separated into equivalent sets.

Integrated

In this unit we will learn about Life Science. We will be learning about the life cycles of plants and animals.

Lunch Accounts

As we near the end of the school year, students are required to have money in their account or in hand to purchase lunch. Students without money will be given either peanut butter and jelly sandwich or cheese sandwich and milk at $1.25. We ask that you keep a close eye on your child's lunch account for the remainder of the year and pay any remaining balance.

Lost And Found

The lost and found is located outside of the library. There are tons of unidentified jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, etc. Please make sure you are labeling your child’s belongings. The staff and students are really good about looking for a name written on the tag to return to your child. If the items are not claimed Barksdale will donate it at the end of the year.

Please also look around the house for loose Barksdale books sent home as readers. The teachers have to reuse the same books year after year. We have several incomplete sets and cannot use them during the school year for small groups.

Field Day!!
