EDUCATE YOURSELF – FAQ’s ABOUT WISCONSIN PARENTAL CHOICE PROGRAM
At our open forum comments were raised about “opting out” of religious activities:
- Is a child in the Choice program at a private religious school required to participate in religious activities or instruction?
No. If a Choice student’s parent or guardian submits to the student’s teacher or the school’s principal a written request that the student be excused from any religious activity, the teacher and school must honor that request. [From Private School Choice Program FAQ’s https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/sms/Choice/PSCP-FAQ-2016-17.pdf].
We are encouraged by the sister WELS elementary schools we talked to who have shared that they have never had a student “opt out”. Instead, the schools have gained literally thousands of opportunities to serve students who are "All In" for WELS religious instruction. We stand firm and are forthcoming on what we believe and teach and will share that when we contact those interested in our school. Our honesty about what we believe will allow parents to make the best school selection for their student. WELS Schools in the WI Parental Choice do not see “opting out” as an issue. Think about it this way: If you sign up to enroll in a French immersion school, but then tell the school you are “opting out” of French, what was the point of enrolling in the school in the first place? If an “opt out” is executed, we will follow the law and continue to show we are loving Christians by our example and continue to teach the Christian faith in every other subject in our curriculum.
Please talk to any committee members and share your questions, comments and concerns. You can get contact info through the school office.
The next WPCP Forum will be Sunday, November 19th at Noon in the Fellowship Hall.

TLS Sports Volunteer Fee
Parents: This is just a reminder about Winter Sports and Volunteer fees. Many parents have already paid the sports fee. If you don’t remember if you paid the fee at registration, please contact the school office and we can let you know. Each team has a uniform that is either new or less than five years old. Due to the rise in costs of various athletic supplies (basketballs, uniforms, referees, etc…), the sports fee for basketball this year is $25 for C-teams and $35 for B and A teams. (Dance team does NOT need to pay the sports fee).
Over the past few years, we have had trouble getting volunteers on a consistent basis. Again this year, we are asking each family (NOT STUDENT) for a $50 volunteer check (separate check from sports fee) that will be refunded at the end of the season when your volunteer hours are met. Volunteer hours will be a minimum of 2 hours per child playing/participating. ALL FEES need to be paid before uniforms are handed out to the students. We will have many opportunities for volunteering either at the concession stand OR score table. If you wish not to volunteer, please let us know and we will cash the check and accept it as a donation to the TLS Booster Club. (This includes dance, basketball, and wrestling teams). Wrestling is included because we do not host any wrestling tournaments or meets.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Rydecki or any Booster Club member. Thank you!
In Christ,
TLS Booster Club
