Message for December 2021
From Your Vernon Township High School Administrative Team

Welcome to December!
Greetings, VTHS!
We continue to encourage all of our students to become active participants in school so they will develop a sense of belonging while attending Vernon Township High School. A list of extracurricular activities is available on the district website. Please be sure to encourage your children to get involved in their school!
As we look ahead to the middle of the school year, please mark your calendars for VTHS Midterms, which will be scheduled for the week of January 31, 2022.
Wishing you all the best as we continue working together for the 2021-2022 school year,
Pauline F. Anderson, Danielle Colte, and Nicholas M. Demsak
December 2021
Action for Happiness Calendars...
This month, they're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness. This has been another difficult year of uncertainty and ups and downs for many of us. Kindness is contagious, and helping others has been proven to make us feel better too! Let's try to focus on being generous with our time and attention rather than money - it's free and better for everyone, as well as our planet!

Behind the Scenes at VTHS
VTHS Students Represent at All Sussex County Choir!

VTHS Choir Updates
- Eight VTHS Choir students recently performed a concert with the Sussex County High School Honor Choir at Kittatinny Regional HS. This choir featured some of the top singers from each of the Sussex County high schools. The students rehearsed for the concert in just 4 combined rehearsals - and they sounded great! Participating students were Aalyiah Gallagher, Megan Hertlein, Sky Port, Hope Rivera, Kelsie Shinall, Dylan Tomza, Brianna Van Orden, and Kailey Vogel.
- The VTHS Choirs are working hard in preparing for their Winter Concert on December 15 at 7 pm in the VTHS Auditorium. Admission is free. Come out to hear some festive holiday music and to support these students in their first indoor concert in two years!
On Sunday, November 14th, the VTHS Green Team hosted a Pumpkin Smash to help residents "green" their Halloween! The event was a sustainable and enjoyable way to celebrate the season. Thank you, Mrs. Brown and the Green Team and Mr. Demsak and CFM!
ENGINEERING COMPETITIONS' RESULTS!
1. TSA/TCNJ Leadership Conference Design Challenge 1st Place in the state.
Design Brief:
Plan, design, and create a transportation device that will successfully deliver three different types of candy into a one-gallon container six feet away. You will have a maximum of 2 minutes to deliver two pieces of each kind of candy. Judges will be using a stopwatch to time your
testing. The faster you finish, the better.

2. TCNJ Jr/Sr Design Challenge- 4th in the state.
The premise of the competition:
Your group is tasked to design a prototype and the interior plans for a mobile integrative STEM truck that could deliver the mobile learning space to a school parking lot. The final deliverable must include a 3D model of the truck as well as drawings of the interior layout. Each truck prototype should have a particular theme related to the STEM fields. Your group should also design “a menu board” that is displayed outside of the truck with the activities of the day.

This was the presention from VTHS to this year's TCNJ 2021 Design Challenge. They had 3 days to design a STEM vihicle in order to bring STEM education to schools throughout New Jersey. The students researched, buildt and prototype in just 3 days!
Congratulations to Mr. Jon Bruno and our talented engineering students! We are proud of all of you!
STRESSED SPELLED BACKWARDS IS DESSERTS!

Additionally, the Jets have provided more than 27,000 tickets to schools for incentives for students who are upstanders.

Third Annual VTHS Baseball Fall Clean Up Service Project!
Forty players were able to clean up ten yards for families through Vernon. Players from the middle school age teams helped out at two of the houses, which allowed Mr. Hardin to talk to the team about his coaching days. Mrs. Gebhardt came to help out at her parents house and their neighbors. The Myren children came to help out too!
We are very proud of these players and what they were able to do for our community. Please enjoy some pictures from these clean-up events!
