Pinkerton Patch
What is happening in the Pinkerton Patch?
Watermelon? Who would believe it?
For the first time ever, WATERMELONS are growing in the Pinkerton Patch! Mrs. Rowe and Taylor, a third grader in Mr. Upchurch's class, planted one watermelon seed in the Pinkerton Patch last spring. The watermelon vine covers almost half of the garden walkway and is supporting 3 large watermelons. The summer rains have really helped the garden grow this season. You can check out the watermelons growing near the 5th grade garden bed.
Great Opportunity to Recycle Seeds
Kindergarten's wildflower garden has gone to seed. Soon seeds will be gathered to replant this fall for a beautiful spring bouquet! The Texas wildflowers grown this year include, Indian Blankets, Texas Bluebonnets, Black-eyed Susans, Mexican hats, Buttercups, Purple Coneflowers, and Wine Cups.
Thank You! Pinkerton Parents
A big Thank You! to all of the Pinkerton parents that watered, picked and helped keep the Pinkerton Patch alive and producing this summer. It is great to see the many vegetable plants still producing in the garden as we begin the new school year. The Pinkerton learners are so excited to see the garden so full of life! Be sure to check out the okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, black-eyed peas, green beans, and fresh herbs growing in the Pinkerton Patch!
Daisy Troop Adopts a Garden Bed
The Girl Scout Daisy Troop 7926 adopted a Pinkerton Patch bed this summer. They planted, weeded, and watered the garden bed to earn their rose petal for "Making the World a Better Place." They planted sweet peppers, thyme, oregano, and basil. The girls enjoyed learning about gardening and the commitment it takes to take care for plants. A big Thank You to the Daisy Troop for making a difference in the Pinkerton Patch!
