EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of April 11, 2021
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Dear EHT School Community,
We are rejuvenated and ready for the last few months of the school year. While there are many end of the year activities to plan, we are especially excited to report that we are returning to five days of in-person instruction on April 26th.
This parent letter was sent to all parents explaining the schedule. Elementary students (Grades K-5) will return to five full days of school with breakfast/lunch being served in the cafeterias and adhering to 6 feet of social distancing to the greatest extent practicable. Secondary students (Grades 6-12) will return to school in person for five abbreviated days. Pre-K students will maintain their current schedule. The reason at this time is we do not have the space for safe social distancing to occur during lunches and academic enhancement/assistance that is occurring in the afternoon sessions is showing us success among the students served. Interventions (virtual and in person) that are in place for students identified via the Response to Intervention process, Intervention and Referral Services, Individualized Educational Plans, 504s, and English Language Learners, that occur in Small Group Instruction (SGI) schedule in the afternoons are successfully assisting students academically, providing support for SEL, and remediating/ credit completion/attendance. Until further notice, and until we can analyze more data, teachers and students will continue to meet virtually and in-person for small groups in the afternoons.
We are still required to prepare and serve over 15,000 meals to all EHT students (in and out of district). The High School and Alder Middle School cafeterias are used as prepping and storage areas for these meals. Therefore, space for serving meals and dining during the day with social distance requirements is limited. Distribution sites remain the same.
Any student who would like to pivot from virtual learning to in-person learning needs to contact their building principal by April 16th. This will be the last opportunity to transition back into the school building. Please know that the process involves a change to transportation routes, PPE, and classroom configurations. Students who would like to transition from in-person learning to virtual learning must inform their principal as well.
I ask that you are patient and understanding of this next transition. We do not want to hold up the transition to five full days for the entire district. We will be working on analyzing the secondary lunch situation and academic data as well as new ideas that are presented. I will be holding a meeting for parents within the next few weeks called the “Superintendent’s Sandbox” which will serve as a ‘town hall’ type meeting where parents can pose questions, glean information, and share positive ideas. Please follow our website and the next district newsletter for a date, time, and location.
Together, we all want to provide the best educational experiences for our students in a safe and enjoyable environment.

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. Together, we can achieve more!

EARNED THOSE STRIPES!
We are so pleased with the look of our new track and turf! The entire facility speaks to #EHTPride! Students are now using the facility to train and compete.
MESSAGE TO OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Kudos to our EHTHS Musical Cast and Crew on an outstanding production of Les Miserables!
The fourth athletic season will began on April 1st with spring sports out on the fields, track, water, and courts in full swing. We are so happy for our spring sport athletics to be competing again being they lost their season last year. The following is updated guidance from the NJSIAA:
Out of State Competition Update – Season 4:In accordance with Executive Order No. 232 (2021), NJSIAA will permit out-of-state competition during Season 4 for outdoor sports only (B Tennis, Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, Baseball and Spring Track & Field) pursuant to the latest New Jersey state travel restrictions. Therefore, an NJSIAA member school may only compete against out-of-state opponents from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. This applies for home games and away games. If an NJSIAA member school travels to an out-of-state opponent in one of these four states, it may only be out of state for less than 24 hours; therefore, no overnight travel is permitted. In accordance with Executive Order No. 232 (2021), NJSIAA continues to prohibit out-of-state competition for all indoor sports.
Outdoor Gathering Limits Update – Season 4: Effective Friday, April 2nd, the general outdoor gathering limit will increase to 200 persons. As a result, the rules regarding youth sports activities (which includes high school sports) will be updated to clarify that participating athletes, coaches, officials and other staff are not subject to the 200-person limit; therefore, general spectators will be limited to 200 and does not include coaches, athletics, trainers officials, or event staff.. This new Executive Order will remove the reference to two parents/guardians per participating athlete being in attendance so that general spectators will now be permitted to attend.
To all of our students who are involved in the Arts and athletics - thank you for your commitment to serving your passion and our school district!
I am proud of you! Good Luck Eagles!
