DATE: May 21, 2021
LOCATION: Main Gym at BVW
ENTRANCE: Use the 163rd Street entrance
Parking: South end of the building near the gym
Door: Parents should enter through doors located by the gym on lower level
Time::
- 8:15 am Seniors need report to the Commons
- 8:15 am Doors will open
- 8:30 am Class Day begins
This ceremony will include special recognitions, awards, student speeches, student performers, and most importantly-- the RINGING OF THE BVW VICTORY BELL!
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, each student will only be permitted to have a total of two guardians in attendance at Class Day. Please refer to the email sent out on Thursday, May 13th for ticketing information. Class Day will be live-streamed by our JAGGED EDGE students, and the link will be shared next week.
DUE TO Construction we have EXTREMELY LIMITED PARKING. Seniors must ride with their family members if possible, so that we can leave enough room for guest parking. We cannot emphasize this enough and appreciate your assistance with this request. At the conclusion of Class Day, seniors will be able to leave with their family.
Tickets can be obtained by visiting this link: https://bvwestjags.com/event-tickets If you have not already created a HOMETOWN tickets account, you will need to do so. This is the only way to get your two tickets. Once your account has been created, you will click “have a passcode” and enter your student’s BVW Student ID#. The ID must be entered to get Tickets. We look forward to celebrating the senior class with you!
GRADUATION DAY for Class of 2021!
DATE: May 23, 2021
LOCATION: Switzer Activities Complex (SWIDAC) 13310 Switzer Rd, Overland Park, KS 66213
TIME:
- 6:00 p.m. Seniors should report the soccer side of the SWIDAC
Gates will open for families.
No tickets required and no limit on seating
- 7:00 p.m. Commencement Ceremony will begin on the football side
Here is the LIVE STREAM LINK to view Blue Valley West High School’s Class of 2021 Commencement Ceremony. Each graduation will have a 30 minute countdown during which the logo for the upcoming school graduation will be displayed. For example, our graduation ceremony begins at 7pm, so at 6:30 pm you should see BVW’s logo appear for 30 minutes.
Seniors: Must report at 6:00pm to the soccer side of the District Activity Complex, they will be staged in alphabetical order for the processional before making their way to the football field to the graduation ceremony. Seniors should wear dress clothes, proper shoes, and their cap and gown.
Seating: We will be utilizing both the home side and the visitor side of the stadium to help with social distancing. Families should sit together and should allow 6 feet of space between each family group.

Weather:
If graduation is postponed, it will be rescheduled for Wednesday, May 26 at 6:00p.m. Please be on the lookout for any communication from either the District or BVW related to cancellations. It may be a good idea to bring a small towel to wipe off bleachers in the event of rain before the ceremony.
Unable to Attend:
A Livestream link from Harvest Communications will be provided closer to graduation. Please check the Blue Valley West and Blue Valley District websites . If your student is unable to attend graduation, please contact BVW after the graduation ceremony has taken place to schedule a time to pick up your student's diploma. You can contact the front office by dialing 913-239-3700.
Diplomas, Official Transcripts, Awards & Certificates
After crossing the stage during the graduation ceremony, your student will pick up a white envelope. This envelope contains his/her diploma, immunization record, applicable academic awards and certificates. The diploma your student receives is one of a kind. Please file it somewhere safe. Students will not receive their diploma if they still have an outstanding balance with the school. Official transcripts will not be available until mid-June. Please do not schedule college enrollments prior to this time if you need to provide a final high school transcript to the college.

ATHLETIC NEWS
Boys Basketball Summer Commitment Meeting
When: 7:45 am Wednesday, May 12
Where: Main Gym
Who: Anyone trying out for the boys basketball team next year should attend
If you cannot attend, please communicate with Coach Hintz.
20-21 Participation Packet Information
Any student planning to participate in any KSHSAA-sponsored sport next year, must complete the required participation packet prior to the start of the season/tryouts. A new packet must be completed each year. Below is a link to the packet. It can also be found on our website - www.bvwestjags.com - or a hard copy can be picked up at West. Spring Sports Spectator Guidelines
The Blue Valley School District has announced that we will be allowing full attendance at all of our outdoor events this spring. Blue Valley District guidelines require that ALL spectators be masked up at all times and in all venues - indoors and outdoors. Please be respectful of the mask requirement to help keep everyone as safe as possible. For specific details for each sport, please click Spectator Guidelines
Athletics Calendar and Notifications
All athletic schedules can be found on our league website at www.easternkansasleague.org or on the school website, by sport. On the EKL website, you can subscribe to receive notifications of changes, updates or cancellations. It is a great way to find out about any changes as soon as they are made on the site. Questions? Seniors! Students who are taking JCCC courses as dual enrollment must wait until all grades have been officially posted to their JCCC student record to request a transcript. If you are also enrolled in a year-long course, you will need to make sure those grades are posted as well before requesting your transcript.
