OCTOBER 2021
Please use this link to record any absences for your child.
October 25-29, 2021
This is Principal McCauley with a message for the week ahead. Thank you to everyone who supported our school this past week through supporting Boosterthon. I consider support as registering, encouraging your child to run fast and have fun and of course pledging. We understand that not everyone can pledge and supporting your child and school comes in many forms. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for which ever way you were able to support!!! You are appreciated.
This week is all about ending the quarter strong. If your child is in grades 3- 5 then they are completing their last week of the quarter and need to ensure that they have all their work completed and turned in before the end of the day on Friday. Friday, October 29th is the last day of the quarter. Grades will be recorded and stored on Monday, November 1st. Please communicate with your teacher now if you have any questions. Please do not delay as they will be working diligently to complete grades for our report card deadline.
Speaking of November 1st...The CMS School Board will be meeting on Tuesday the 26th. During this meeting, there will be a vote to change the school calendar which would change November 1st to a teacher workday and no longer a day for students. Currently, November 2nd is a teacher workday due to voting on campus. I am taking the time to share this with you so that you understand the great need for this change. This school year has brought many challenges and time is incredibly valuable. This extra day will give us the opportunity to catch our breathe and complete mandatory Professional Development from the state. I hope you will join me in supporting our teachers in this change.
Please don't forget about the PTA class pack to support your child's school materials. They are accepting payment HERE. We appreciate your prompt payment of this class pack for your student.
Today I was hopeful that the Panthers were going to pull off a win but unfortunately that did not happen. Let's show some Panther support anyway by wearing your best Panther's Gear to show your support of our hometown team!!!
I hope that everyone enjoyed the weather this weekend and that you are having a wonderful Sunday. I look forward to seeing you all, in your Panther Gear, in the morning. Go Panthers!
Have a great night!

Hearing Screening Announcement
All Pre-K, K, and 1st grade students and students new to CMS will have a hearing screening performed by the school’s Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologists on Friday, October 29 through the first week in November unless the school is notified in writing by Friday, October 22, 2021. If a student does not pass the hearing screening after three attempts, a “Consent for Hearing Evaluation” permission form will be sent to the parent to proceed with a hearing evaluation at school.
Parents of students being monitored for a history of hearing loss should be aware that they will also receive this consent form. Without signed permission, students will not receive a hearing evaluation by the school’s Audiologist.

Pack 119 Time Update & Info
A little about cub scouts for anyone not familiar with the program- Cub scouts is a secular, non-denominational, all faiths welcome program for boys and girls that are elementary school aged. Our pack, Pack 119, is chartered by South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, and that is where we hold our weekly meetings, however you do not need to be a member of the church to join. There are quite a few Hawk Ridge kids in the pack, so your child is bound to see some familiar faces. We do wear masks at our weekly meetings.
In cub scouts the kids learn useful life skills, while developing character, building lifelong friendships, and having lots of fun. Our pack does fun things like hiking and camping together, building model rockets and launching them, and racing pinewood derby cars that the kids make themselves. We have a camping trip coming up October 8-10 at scout Camp Belk in Midland, NC, which is about 30 minutes away. At camp the kids will climb the climbing wall, go fishing, and shoot BB guns, all under close adult supervision from trained leaders. It is not too late to join the pack to get in on the fun! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any additional questions regarding cub scouting. Hope to see you at scouts on Tuesday nights!

Let Me Run Coaches needed for the Fall Season!
Let Me Run is thrilled to be back IN-PERSON this Fall, but we need your help to make it happen at Hawk Ridge!
Let Me Run is much more than a running program for boys. Our trained coaches combine 5k training with fun activities and lessons to help boys learn teamwork, build relationship skills, create friendships, amplify their self-esteem, empower themselves and others, and live an active lifestyle.
Let Me Run Coaches at Hawk Ridge:
- Coach 4th-5th grade boys
- Commit to 2 days per week for about an hour for 7 weeks after school starting in mid-October
- Help boys train for an end-of-season 5k race on December 11th.
- Attend free Coaches Training and get certified for 2 years
