Team Work = Dream Work! :) Thank you!

JUNE 20, 2016 - FLEX DAY

  • All teachers and teacher assistants may work a flex schedule for the staff day on June 20, 2016. Please make sure that all teachers and teacher assistants are aware of this option. They may begin working the extra time on May 31, 2016 and keep a log of the time worked. Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators, and library assistants may not work more than 40 hours in any one week. The time sheets will provide documentation to support the hours reported in WISE. The flex day applies only to the following group of employees:
  • All teachers whose schedule ends on June 20
  • Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators, and library media assistants

  • Security assistants are not eligible because of security needs of the building.

  • Eligible employees who do not choose to make use of the flex day and do not wish to report on June 20, 2016, may choose to take personal reasons leave with approval of the building principal.

MAINTAINING HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION THROUGH THE LAST SCHOOL DAY

Please review with your teachers the expectation that high-quality teaching and learning be continued in each classroom through the last school day. In the past, we have received calls from parents expressing concern that students “watch videos” or “just play” the days after testing is completed. These final school days should be productive learning days for students.

* I know you have a lot high-quality instruction planned for the remaining days of the school year - Please make sure you keep students engaged & HAVE FUN LEARNING!

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2016 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE SUMMER WORKSHOP

Title III is hosting a one-day English as a second language (ESL) summer workshop on Monday, June 20, entitled, Why Aren’t You Looking At Me When I Talk To You?, for 75 K-12 classroom teachers. The purposes of the workshop are to discuss misconceptions, identify classroom strategies and provide teachers with concrete recommendations for discovering the joy in working with culturally and linguistically diverse immigrant students.

Teachers registering through MyLearningPlan for the one-day ESL summer workshop must have fulfilled their contractual commitments for the 2015-2016 school year no later than Friday, June 17, as the workshop scheduled on June 20 is the flexible staff day. Teachers in attendance will receive six PLP points, which will be exported to count for license renewal.

If you have questions about the ESL summer workshop, please contact Renee Collier, Title III coordinator for English learners, at rcollier@vbschools.com or by phone at 263-1461. Thank you.

Thank You from Admin!

Staff, Thank you for spoiling us this week with so many treats and gifts. We are lucky to work with a staff so dedicated to support the many needs of our children. When we first arrived at AES, many of you shared that Alanton was a family - we have been feeling this since our first day.

Thank you for making this week so special!

~Charlene & Bruce
