Open Announcements

July 17, 2020

Dear Open High Family:

The RPS School Board has made the decision for all schools to go fully virtual for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. While this will place a heavy burden on many of our families, I think it was the best option. We cannot compromise when it comes to the health of our students and staff. With that said, there are still many unknowns that we will be working on during the coming days and weeks. What we do know is that virtual instruction will look very different than it did in the spring. We have no plans to use Edgenuity; instead, Open High teachers will be providing live instruction, along with asynchronous work, and virtual check-ins. There is no question that this is a radical shift which will require an "open" mind and an abundance of patience. But I have confidence in our faculty, our staff, and our students. We will rise to the occasion and come out stronger.

As always, I welcome your feedback. To this end, please complete the short survey below to help us understand student needs and concerns as we move forward.

Kindest regards,

Clary Carleton

Report Cards and Transcripts

Report cards have been mailed. If for some reason you did not receive yours, we may need an updated mailing address. Please call the school during normal operating hours, Monday-Thursday 8:30-3:30 to take care of this.

This year the final grading process was centralized, automated, and frankly rather messy. We are aware that some students, who did in fact complete Edgenuity modules and/or Performance Tasks, were incorrectly given an Incomplete. We will be examining each and every grade for each and every student to make sure errors are corrected within the coming days.

We also know our recent graduates are anxious for their transcripts to be sent to colleges, and we are prioritizing this work. Please contact Micah at mdavis7@rvaschools.net with specific concerns. Again, we appreciate your patience and will continue to ask for grace during these unprecedented times.
