Our Book Fair started today. We have lots of cool books to chose and some awesome posters, bookmarks, and other fun things as well. You can send money with your child or you can put money on an ewallet using this link- https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/parent-how-it-works.html Using the ewallet you can give your child a limit and then you are charged at the end of the book fair. The money we raise goes to buy new books for the library! Plus, your child can have a great book to read and enjoy! The Book Fair will last until March 5th.

Tuesday, March 5th from 5:30-6:30 is our Family STEAM Night. We will have fun STEAM activities for you and your child to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you. The Book Fair will be open during Family STEAM Night as well! If your child attends, they will receive a homework pass for the next night. They will also get extra recess!

Next week our 1st and 3rd graders will be taking the CogAT. It is a test that measures learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Reasoning skills develop gradually throughout a person’s lifetime, and at different rates for different individuals. CogAT does not measure such factors as effort, attention, motivation, and work habits, which contribute to school achievement as well. Please make sure your children are to school on time, rested, and ready to do their best.

Yearbooks are on sale for $21 through March 15th. The cost will go up to $25 after Spring Break. We have additional order forms in the office. You can also order the yearbook online at www.jostensyearbooks.com If you want the yearbook personalized, you will have to pay for it tomorrow, March 1st.

Attendance at school is SO IMPORTANT for the success of your child! This year, any student who miss 18 or more days of school (even if they have doctors notes) from August through May is considered "Chronically Absent" and will cause our school to receive a lower score on the State Report Card.

Here are our attendance percentages from August to now:

1st grade-93.88%

2nd grade-94.98%

3rd grade-95.40%

4th grade-96.10%

Total for school-95.02%

Some of our students have already missed 18 days while others are getting very close to this number. A student that is absent because of a life threatening illness or disease can receive an exemption. Thankfully, most of our students do not qualify for this exemption. PLEASE make every effort to have your child to school on time and ready to learn! Attendance is a huge indicator of academic and social success!!

Our third and fourth graders are preparing to take their big State Test in April. They are being very serious and doing their best. Please continue to encourage your children to put forth their best effort at all times. First and second graders are also preparing as well. What they learn now will affect how well they do when they are third and fourth graders. Our school does well on the test because our students are prepared. Hard work always pays off!!

Next week is also Read Across America Celebration. On Monday we will wear Pink or Blue for Mo Willems. Tuesday we will wear a Positive Message t-shirt. Wednesday we will wear Crazy Socks for Dr. Suess's Fox and Socks. Thursday and Friday we will read special books together!
