Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Dear John Glenn High School Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! It goes without saying that the start of this year is like no other. There has been so much change, there are still so many unknowns, and each student, despite their grade level, has to feel somewhat like a freshman once again. I know that I do; I am your new principal, yet I am not exactly new to NLMUSD or Glenn as I spent five years here as an Assistant Principal before leaving for almost five more. I am so proud to be back as your principal and with an amazing team and staff. One thing I can assure you all of is this: Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!
As we work to re-open our campus, I am proud to say that we will be returning to in-person instruction and will be able to once again engage in sports, clubs, and visual and performing arts. There are so many excellent programs and activities for you to take part in. My goal is to make sure that you are informed about these opportunities and more. Please check your emails the evening of Friday, July 30th for the first edition of the 21-22 Eagle Family Newsletter. This newsletter will be emailed to you weekly and will be filled with updates, important resources, and more.
So Eagles, let’s soar to new heights together as we RECONNECT, REFLECT, and RELAUNCH! I wish you all the best in 2021/22 and beyond!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Padilla, Ed.D., Principal

ACADEMICS
Assistant Principal, Shanon Cruz
As we start this new year, requesting support and resources is going to be vital as we reconnect with school and each other. Our Counseling Center is ready to help. We can connect families with rent support, back to school supplies, back to school clothes, academic advisement, college/career resources, and mental health services. We are an Eagle Family and we need to take care of each of other. Let's start school feeling empowered to advocate for ourselves.
Feel free to email me with your questions and requests at scruz@nlmusd.org.
JGHS & Southeast Academy are RAMP Schools of Disctinction!
The American School Counselor Association's Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) recognizes schools throughout the United States that provide exemplary school counseling programs. The school counseling teams at John H. Glenn High School and Southeast Academy are proud to be named as 2021 ASCA RAMP recipients! Both programs were honored for providing counseling services that are data-driven, equitable and accessible to all students, while also nurturing social-emotional growth and promoting academic success along with college/career readiness.
The John H. Glenn High School and Southeast Academy counselors were recognized on July 13th at the ASCA RAMP Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since the program's inception in 2004, only nine high schools have been named as RAMP schools in the state of California. In addition to earning this recognition, John H. Glenn High School is the first and only high school in California to be named as a RAMP School of Distinction! Both school counseling programs are honored to serve the students and families of Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.

ATHLETICS
Assistant Princpal, Orlando Beltran
Dear Glenn Families,
I cannot begin to describe how excited I am to be a new member of the Glenn community serving as Assistant Principal overseeing Athletics and Facilities. I am new to Glenn, the district, and city and I know I have a lot to learn. I will do my best to learn quickly and serve the community to the best of my abilities.
It has been a difficult time for many of us and it seems like we are finally reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. We are all excited to see students back on campus and enjoying the many beautiful experiences that come with being a high school student. I would like to ask all families to encourage your students to try out for a sports team this fall! Being on a sports team is a great way to make friends, exercise, build character, and learn or improve on athletic abilities. You may have never played a sport before, but that is ok. We are all here to learn and have fun. If you are interested in any of the sports listed below, please reach out to the coach or talk to a Glenn staff member the next time you are on campus. We look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.
