Hello all-
WOW! It was beyond wonderful seeing our Gompers teachers & staff out and about in the community today. The car decorations, signs, honking, and cheers coming from all of these vehicles was phenomenal. We even had neighbors participating in the cheering from the streets and they don’t even have kids going to our school. That is how much ALL of you have touched our hearts. It brought out so many emotions (yes, I cried) and was a much needed thing for our children (and us) during this difficult time. Anyways, I just wanted to say hi, THANK YOU, and take care of yourselves. We miss everyone and just wanted to let all of the staff know how much this met to us. GO GATORS!

My email comes to you as a parent and an employee of LBUSD. THANK YOU for the GOMPERS parade through the neighborhood today!!!!
My son, James Linares, went to Gompers from K-5 and transitioned to middle school at Bancroft MS; he is currently in 7th grade.
I am also an employee at LBUSD; I am a credential specialist in HRS. Although we don't currently work together through Gompers, we have chatted in the past.
Anywhoo, I just wanted to THANK YOU and the STAFF for today's drive through the neighborhood.
I have a compromised immune system and have been working from home, and so today's excitement seriously just feed my soul. (PS, my 7th graders was still asleep, so you all woke him up; I giggled and silently thanked you for the unexpected wake up call! )
I live on Coldbrook (Del Amo side) and was so excited to see so many of my son's previous teachers drive by as well as my neighbors coming outside to cheer on the caravan.
There are just a few students on our block, but many households came outside to say hello.
Take care and stay healthy yourself ~ Janelle Linares

Hi All,
I just wanted to share that the Gompers teachers drove down my street, more than 30 cars, with their cars all “dolled” up with signs, balloons, and streamers, waving and honking their horns. The kids on my street were soooo excited and they too, had signs they held from their porches.
Way to go LBUSD, they made the day of soooo many kids.
Enjoy the afternoon,
Lori Betschel, LBUSD - Superintendent's Secretary
THEORY of ACTION
Gompers Team Members,
Last Thursday's, meeting was a "little dense" with a "big dive" into expectations as it relates to Synchronous and Asynchronous teaching and its implications. I know this is not easy, we have asked you to jump through "BIGGGGGGGG HOOOOOOPS" as educators in less than 2 weeks. Allllllll I can say is, I am PROUD of you TEAM GOMPERS, you are AWESOME!!!. We will continue to take it one step at a time and continue to use each other as resources in the process. Additional, PD training will be forthcoming from the Tech office to support these modalities after we return from Spring Break.
During these uncertain times, we have to practice self-care. When you have a moment, please take some time to read through these self-care tips in this week's bulletin and the information that the district sent to staff members last week concerning EASE. We have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others.
*Office Hours - We are in the process of creating a schedule for our office. Currently, we are trying to decide if we are going to use Google Voice from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and meet with the public by appointment only or rotate our hours so we can physically be in the office. Even if we are in the office physically, our doors will remain locked to the public. The district's concern is that they need someone answering phones from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. While we continue to explore the Google Voice option, we will continue to keep all of you posted about our plan once we decide.
*Spring Break for Students: Unless the district states otherwise, we need to observe our Spring Break. We are all in need of a break so please try to enjoy your time with family and friends in some type of way during your Spring Break.
*Coronavirus Information: The district is working diligently to update us about the Coronavirus. For more information, please continue to check the district's website at http://www.lbschools.net/Departments/Newsroom/article.cfm?articleID=2825

Only the principal/admin designees, the custodial team, and the cafeteria staff should be on school sites

Engaging and maintaining relationships with students
This article list 7 ways to stay connected during school closure:

Daily GatorNation TV Show @ 9:00am - Gompers Community
Vibrant ....Ms. Vanessa Quamma....
- What have I learned about my students during school closure? I have learned that my students are very tech-savvy and have transitioned to online learning seamlessly. I believe it was through integrating technology within my classroom, that my students know how to navigate the online resources available during school closure.
- What have you learned about yourself as a teacher integrating more technology? I tend to shy away from things that I am not familiar with, however, I have seen the necessity to incorporate technology within the classroom. I go into every training or PD with the mindset of "how with this work in my classroom," and I try it. It may bomb the first time, so I reevaluate, make adjustments, and try again. If I expect my students to try things that are not familiar to them, I must practice what I preach and try things that I am not familiar with like technology.
- What has been the most difficult time (personally or professionally) with school closure? Personally, I have a son who is a senior and not being able to enjoy senior activities like prom and graduation is very disheartening. Professionally, trying to figure out how to provide support for all the different learning needs of my students.
- What is one cool/fun thing that you and your family have done since school closure? Being able to spend quality time with my teenage boys. This pandemic has given me more time to spend with my kids before one goes off to college and the other is embarrassed to be seen with his parents.
- What makes you most proud to be a member of #Gatornation? My colleagues make me most proud to be a member of #Gatornation. They are supportive, creative, and always willing to help.
