Week of April 24th
Stanford Testing
Standford testing began on Monday, April 24th. The children have come to school looking well rested. Please make sure they eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning, this is so important for brain power! We will finish the testing next week.
Congratulations!
How wonderful it was to celebrate the marriage of Meghan Kenny and Jacob Juba! Meghan was a beautiful bride, and it was a lovely ceremony. So many of our fourth graders were in attendance, which meant a lot to the new married couple! So what happened after the wedding festivities? Well, the couple boarded a plane on Sunday for Florence Italy! We are happy to report they arrived safely, and are enjoying the sites, food, and beauty of the city. We have put together some surprises for the New Mrs. Juba, and anxiously await her return as we miss her very much!
Homework
Due to Stanford testing, the students will not have written homework in math, reading, grammar, or social studies this week. We have however, given them a reading log to complete. Please make sure your child stays on top of their independent reading!
Field Day!
Field Day is scheduled for next Friday at Audubon Park. This is a fun day for the students where they compete as Dragons, Trojans, and Spartans in various field games. Who will come out on top? Lunch will be provided this year by the Dad's Club, so you do not need to bring a lunch. A sign up genius will be emailed to you by our wonderful room mothers regarding items that we do need donated. Parents must pick up their child at 11:45 a.m. at the park in the designated fourth grade area. You must check out with your child's homeroom teacher before leaving. Mrs. Sontag will not be at field day so her homeroom with check out with Mrs. McConnell.
Social Studies
Wow! The year is flying by and we still have so much to learn about the American Revolution! Currently, we are learning about women's role in the war, and the support they provided at home, in the war camps, and even on the field (ask your child about Deborah Sampson). With war comes problems such as funding the war efforts, and food shortages. Help comes from far away though and we will soon see a turning point for the colonists. Important battles will be fought, and strong leaders will emerge! Mrs. Sontag's homeroom has begun a project based assessment on an important figure in the American Revolution. They have visited the library to gather information, are utilizing the iPads, and taking advantage of the time they have in the technology lab. They are learning how to complete a reference page, and will compile all of the information into a book format. This is an introduction to a research project. Mrs. Juba's homeroom is also completing a project and will begin as soon as she returns to class.

Liberty's Kids
Above I have provided you with an episode of Liberty's Kids. We utilize this program to reinforce concepts from our Social Studies curriculum. These are wonderful, historically accurate, videos that help our visual learners understand the concepts better. Often, after teaching an in depth lesson we will watch an episode, stopping along the way for discussions. The students love Liberty's Kids! They can be accessed at home through YouTube.
Have a wonderful week!
