Our First Ladies Night Is Coming Up!
Our first Ladies Night is coming up next week and it will have an Hawaiian theme! And a door prize!
Sherri Spritzer will be hosting the event on Thursday, June 20, 7:00-10:00 p.m. Please RSVP to her at sherri.spritzer@verizon.net so that she can take a head count. She needs 15 promised attendees for this to be a go!
Please bring an Hawaiian dish if you can or some other kind of salad, appetizer, or dessert to share. Soft drinks will be provided. Bring your own wine or beer.
Swim Team Revs Up for Action
Our swim team, the Kemp Mill Kangaroos, has been hard at work preparing for its first swim meet, which will be at home Wednesday, June 19.
The pool will close to members at 4 p.m. to give the team time to set up before the visiting Diamond Farms swimmers start arriving at about 5 p.m.
The pool also has home meets that will close the pool to general membership swimming a 4 p.m. each day as follows:
- Monday, June 24, 5-9 p.m. Home Meet v. West Hillandale
- Monday, July 8, 5-9 p.m. Home Meet v. Twinbrook
The team also will be hosting the Division O Relay Carnival on Sunday, June 30, from 8-11:30 a.m. and you’re invited!
This is a wildly fun event involving swimmers from all of the division’s teams that also happens to help the team raise money through its Kangaroo Kafe. Come cheer on the ‘Roos while enjoying breakfast, lunch, and snacks poolside!
Haven’t registered your children for the team yet? Better hurry! For registration details, see the team’s website.
President's Corner
Just a reminder that our operating hours will change this Saturday after the public schools have let out for the summer. The new hours will be:
- Mon.-Thurs. 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
- Fri. 12 p.m. - 9 p.m.
- Sat.-Sun. 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Nightcrawlers will move to a 9 p.m. starting time beginning June 19. The Nightcrawlers meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
We expect everyone to have a good time while at the pool this summer. Of course, issues will arise. When they do, please bring them to the attention of a board member so they can be addressed.
Here are a few reminders that can help us all enjoy our pool time.
- Guards - Please follow their requests or directions. They have everyone’s safety as a responsibility. Just because they are young doesn’t mean we can ignore their requests.
- Chairs - Do not go into the baby pool. This can damage the white coat on its floor.
- Baby diapers - When removed, they go into the trash. Do not leave them behind the toilet.
We are also going to be installing a changing table in the men's room! Perhaps even in time for Father's Day this week! We are adding this feature so that dads, and not just moms, can attend to diaper-changing duty.
Parents, as a courtesy to other members, please do not use the picnic tables as a changing surface, including tables that are not in the designated dining area. Lighthouse Pool Management staff have been asked to remind parents to use the changing tables in the restroom(s).
Please also be reminded that non-toilet-trained children must wear a swim diaper AND a rubber pant over that diaper while they are in the baby or main pool. This requirement is intended to minimize the chance of "fecal releases" [bit of lifeguard lingo, there].
What the rest of us call potty accidents can close the pool for several hours, because the staff must scoop out what they can, bomb with extra chemicals the part of the water the poop was found, and then the water must cycle through the filters.
Although it may seem invasive, staff may ask parents of babies/toddlers to show that the children are wearing both swim diaper and rubber pant before allowing them into the pool.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
We've been open for two weeks, and already our Lost & Found bin is overflowing! Please check it on your next visit for anything your family may be missing because anything that's unclaimed by closing time today will be donated or discarded.
There's also a Towel Exchange in the women's room. If you forgot yours, just grab one of those, use it, and either bring it home to launder or put it back for our volunteers to clean.
