The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of October 28-November 1!
Message from the principal
As we recognize October as national College Application Month, we continue to highlight a few of our UHS graduates who are out doing different kinds of work/learning and share about the pathways that took them where they are around Iowa and around the world.
This week we highlight UHS 2019 graduate, Blake Davis. After graduating last spring, Blake made the commitment to join the United States Navy, enlisting and going to basic training within months of graduating. Blake was back at UHS to visit on Friday and shared that he hopes to be part of the naval police force. He deploys in the coming weeks to the middle east where he will serve our country as part of the U.S. Navy there. His long term plans are to be a career member of the U.S. Navy. Below is a picture of Blake when he visited our counseling office. Thank you for your service, Blake!
ASVAB Testing info
Urbandale High School is participating in the Department of Defense ASVAB Career Exploration Program. Students’ ASVAB test results will help interpret strengths and identify areas where students have an aptitude. Many people use the program results to help provide focus for their college major. Additionally, for those students in 12thgrade, who think that a military career is a direction they would like to pursue, the ASVAB results can be used for military enlistment.
Students participating in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program have no obligation to the military or to talk to a military recruiter.
This test is optional and available to any student in grades 10-12.
The ASVAB will be offered at UHS on Wednesday, November 13, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., in room 237.
Students can sign up in advance in the counseling office or contact their counselor.
Please contact your student’s counselor with questions.

They play at #4 Ankeny Centennial on Friday, November 1st, at 7:00pm. If they win, they play at Cedar Rapids Kennedy or Fort Dodge on November 8th. Great work to Coach Anderson and the J-Hawks on qualifying for the state tournament for the 23rd time in school history!!
The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams took 3rd and 2nd place respectively at the district qualifying meet on Thursday in Council Bluffs. Congratulations to Coach Davis and Coach Hammerand as well as the teams! With those places, each team qualified for the state meet on November 2nd in Fort Dodge at 11:00am. Peyton Marrs was the district champion for the boys and Anthony Moran placed 4th. Macy Gaskill was the top runner for the girls placing 10th. The girls tied for 3rd with sophomore runner Crystal Ruden providing the tie-breaking score by placing ahead of Ankeny Centennial's 6th place runner. Congratulations, runners!
