Issue #12: January 4-8

Happy New Year!

Greetings! I am writing this newsletter at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon still in my pajamas, finding it hard to believe that our break is coming to an end soon! I spent 2 weeks spending time with friends and family, seeing movies, reading, doing yoga, and even playing some (ok, a lot of!) bingo! I am hopeful that all of you thoroughly enjoyed your break as well. I am looking toward the new year with hopeful optimism, a desire to learn more, and a continued sense of teamwork and support for each other.

I appreciate all of you and I wish you nothing but the best for a prosperous 2016!

Full 90-Day Observations

I am more than halfway through the 90-day observations and will continue through January.
The schedule will be:
January 4-8: 4th Grade
January 11-15: Kindergarten
January 18-22: 5th Grade
Stay tuned for how to schedule your observation!

Singapore Math Night

Please include in communications to families this week. This has already been sent in the Nova Notes, but a reminder would be great!

Please join us for a parent education Lower School Singapore Math night on Monday, January 11. The evening will focus on the rationale for using Singapore math, how the math concepts are built upon from year to year, the reasoning behind timed tests, how model drawing is used to help solve word problems, how model drawing prepares students for algebra and how parents can best help students at home. This informational event will be presented by Mrs. Rude and Mrs. Marchand. It will begin at 6:30 and will take place in Room 109. We hope to see you there!

Grades 4-8 History and Geography Bees

Details are still to be determined, but roughly, here is the schedule:

History Bee: first round January 11-12, (possible) school-wide bee on January 14

Geography Bee: first round January 18-22, school-wide bee on January 28

Report Cards and Conduct Reports

Hard to believe, but the end of the quarter is near!

Friday, January 22 is the end of Q2. All grades and conduct reports are due by the end of the day Friday, January 29. Please use the conduct reports on the X: drive, and save as "Quarter 2" somewhere in the file name so both Q1 and Q2 are saved as separate files. Please let me know if you have questions about this.
