Golden Lions!

Congratulations to the 124 students who received Golden Lion awards in the past 2 months. On Friday afternoon, we held an assembly to recognize those students for their character. Together, those students received a total of 192 Golden Lion awards. These students have demonstrated the Lakeview expectations of "Be safe ~ Be respectful ~ Be engaged" and the SM Character Traits of respect, responsibility, kindness, honesty, and perseverance. We truly believe that good character is the basis of academic achievement. Who you are is just as important as what you know!

Kindness Week!

Schools across South Milwaukee will join other schools across the nation to celebrate Kindness Week. Of course, we expect students to be kind every day, and it is one of our five SM Character Traits. But we set aside a week to highlight the value of kindness within Lakeview and beyond our walls. There will be a coin war to raise funds for a health clinic in Liberia, Africa. There will be spirit days to highlight a different kindness theme each day, and a kindness chain built in our hallways out of the kind acts students do for each other on a daily basis.

Here are two links about kindness week:

McTeacher Night at McDonald's

If you love your teacher and you love McDonald's, then we've got the perfect combination for you! McTeacher night at the South Milwaukee McDonald's - where the teachers help work. Don't worry, we don't cook the food. But I can't promise that you'll get the right toy in your happy meal. McDonald's donates 20% of your food order total to the Lakeview PTO when you use this flyer. Again, we'll send home the flyer in the Tuesday folder on January 15.

Literacy Night is coming up!

Each year, the school district hosts a wonderful Literacy Night to celebrate all the ways we love literacy - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This year, the event is on Friday, February 8th from 5-7:30 p.m. at the high school. If you pre-register using this flyer, a light dinner is provided. There will be student work shared, several make-and-take opportunities, and even a session with children's author Bob Raczka. If you are unable to print the flyer, a hard copy will be in the Tuesday folder on January 15. Just be sure to return by January 30. Here is the flyer in Albanian and here is the flyer in Spanish.

New Visitor Management System

School safety is our #1 priority. Starting February 4th, a new visitor management system will be in effect at all four elementary schools. Please see this letter for more information. Starting February 4th, every visitor will need to present an ID at the main office (such as a driver's license) for scanning.

Digital Citizenship

Are you a Digital Native (born after 1984) or Digital Immigrant? Maybe these terms are no longer relevant. Perhaps our lives are no longer defined separately as online or face-to-face. The following article: Busting the Myths of the “Digital Native” explains three myths about parenting or teaching in the digital age. What I like most about this article are the solutions shared regarding these myths. The solutions bring balance to our lives online and face-to-face.

A healthy reminder

Please talk to your students about not sharing hats, scarves, headbands, etc. We do not have any active cases of lice at school right now (and we no longer notify an entire class when we do have a case), but it never hurts to remind students about these good habits.
