Congratulations to the Jazz Band

The Jazz Band did an AWESOME job on Saturday at the West Fest! Way to go! I am so proud of all of you! Keep up your great work!

7am - 6th Grade Band

No Liberty Band sectionals today due to short class length because of the PARCC testing

Instrument Spotlight of the Week: Saxophone!

Saxophone Fun Facts:

A saxophone is a single reed, woodwind instrument first developed in the mid-1800s by Adolphe Sax. Sound is produced on the sax when air is blown through the instrument causing the reed to vibrate. Saxes are made out of brass which is 70% copper and 30% zinc.

The saxophone is used in all types of music especially concert band and jazz band. Some famous saxophone players are John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderly, Woody Herman, Branford Marasalis and former President Bill Clinton!

There is a very cool youtube video done by the US Army Field Band which shows some very neat and unheard of saxophones. I HIGHLY recommend that you check out the video. It is pretty neat to see some of these instruments and some are totally CRAZY! Check out the video below:
