A message from Mr. Shepler:
Dear Lockerman Middle School families,
With CCPS moving into Phase 3 of the Recovery Plan, we will now be providing transportation to many Prekindergarten- 2nd grade students that will be returning to our elementary schools. Based on the number of students returning to our elementary schools and the adjustments to transportation, our middle school student schedule is changing. Please read the Superintendent's Message shared by Dr. Saelens earlier today. With this new schedule, the student day will end earlier without heavily compromising instruction. The student schedule is posted below and a pdf version will be sent out via School Messenger email. The updated schedule will begin on Monday, October 5th. As soon as we finalize half day and delay schedules aligned to our new schedule, these will be shared as well.
With that said, here we are almost into October and I have been so impressed with how our students have transitioned to virtual learning these first few weeks. Believe it or not, interim grades will freeze on Thursday, October 8th so please monitor your child's performance within PowerSchool. Do not hesitate to contact teachers and counselors as needed so that we can fully support your child as much as possible.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you.
Matt Shepler
Principal

Free Meals
CCPS Food Services will continue providing free breakfast and lunch to Caroline County children ages 2–18, possibly through the end of December, through a USDA program.
- There are no income requirements.
- Families needing to either start service for children or discontinue their current service should call CCPS Food Services at 410-479-3261.
- Home delivery will continue to families who have been receiving summer meal service.
Students at Home - Home deliveries will be made prior to 1:00 pm, every weekday that schools are open.
Students in the School Buildings will receive free meals at school, also through the USDA program.
While meals for all children are currently free, families who normally fill out Free and Reduced Meal Benefit applications should still complete and turn in the application. Meal benefit applications affect school programs such as Title 1, Maryland Meals for Achievement and other initiatives that benefit children.

Tech Tips for Students
- If your child is saying their computer is running slow, make sure they are shutting down the device at the end of each day. This should help alleviate some issues.
- Make sure your child is emailing their teachers if they need help. Many of our students may not yet feel comfortable asking questions in a Zoom format. As you talk with your child each day about school, encourage them to ask for help, we are here for them and want them to be successful!!
News from the Nurse
For students that have returned to the building, we continue to enforce simple actions of wearing our face coverings and washing our hands frequently. In addition, it is more important than ever to not send your student to school sick or not feeling well. Parents/ guardians must review and monitor their child’s symptoms and exposure risk each day before sending their students to school. Temperature screening must also occur daily prior to reporting to school. This information is available in the CCPS COVID-19 Awareness Parent/Guardian Attendance Acknowledgement Statement.
Students cannot attend school or any school activities if they are:
Exhibiting any signs/symptoms of COVID-19
Have been in close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) to someone who is positive for COVID-19 or is exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms in the past 14 days
Has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or has been instructed by a health care provider or the health department to isolate or quarantine.
Students must be fever free (less than 100F) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication to attend school.
The school nurse must be contacted if the student can not attend school due to illness.
Signs and Symptoms of COVID-19 include the following:
* New onset of cough or shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
* New loss of taste or smell
Or at least two of the following symptoms:
* Fever (100.4F or higher)
* Chills or shaking chills
* Sore throat
* Headache
* Muscle or body aches
* Nausea, vomiting
* Diarrhea
If you have any questions, please call the health room and ask for guidance. Also remember to notify the school nurse if your child is at home due to an illness. Finally, The National Association of School Nurses have developed videos to discuss face coverings, hand washing and not sending your student to school sick. The videos are in English and Spanish. They are great for all age groups of children. These videos can be found on our LMS website, www.Lockermanms.org, located under student.
LMS School Based Health Center
It’s that time of the year! Get the shot, not the flu! Influenza vaccine should now be available at your primary care doctor’s office and at your local pharmacy. Please make the time for your child, and your family to get vaccine protection against the flu!
Other ways to help prevent the spread of flu:
- Wash your hands with hand sanitizer or soap and water – after using the bathroom, before and after eating, any time you cough or sneeze.
- Cover your cough or sneeze! – Use a tissue or at least cough inside your shirt to prevent spreading germs.
- If you’re sick with a fever, stay home! – It’s okay to treat a fever with rest and over the counter medication, but a fever for 2-3 days earns a trip to the doctor.
Your School Based Health Center (SBHC) through Choptank Community Health can see your child for a mild illness and can diagnose and treat the flu if needed. The SBHC at Lockerman Middle School is open Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 am until 3 pm and on Friday from 7:30 am until 11:30 am.
