College and Career Readiness

The Newton County School System : Fifth Edition

Our Vision

The Newton County School System is proud to announce the creation of a new department solely dedicated to supporting students in becoming both college and career ready. Working closely with school-based departments, the College and Career Readiness Specialists aid students as they navigate both college admissions and career exploration. Collaborating with counseling teams, the department assists students in reflecting on their passions while exposing them to key steps they can take as they turn their dreams into actionable plans.

In efforts to support students and to build a common language and understanding, the College & Career Readiness team will publish a collection of newsletters. Each newsletter will include helpful tools and resources that will expose our students to the endless opportunities available to them. We in Newton County not only want to ready our students for graduation day, but it is our core mission to ready them for success beyond high school. Scroll below to explore this month's tips and take-aways and don't hesitate to reach out to a College & Career Readiness Specialist today!

The College and Career Readiness Department sponsored our second annual NACAC field trip!

Each year our department invites high school juniors to attend the annual college fair hosted by the National Association for College Admission and Counseling organization (NACAC). We are delighted to share that students from Alcovy, Eastside, Newton and The Newton College and Career Academy were able to attend! Additionally, not only did we have an amazing turnout, but the event made a huge impact on our students. Several juniors expressed interest in colleges they would have otherwise never considered, with some students omitting schools due to fit and finances.

This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to interview prospective schools before they begin their senior year. Be on the lookout for next year's CCR-sponsored event!
