EVERY STUDENT. EVERY DAY. WHATEVER IT TAKES. - JIMMY CASAS
We have been extremely busy during these past two months. We have finished our mid-year assessments; celebrated the 100th day of school; voted on the Super bowl; started our contributions to the American Heart Association with our Kids Heart Challenge; our fifth graders played each other in volleyball; and we celebrated Twos Day on 2-22-22. We are making every day count at RPES!
A LETTER FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT Sent on Friday February 25, 2022
Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community:
Earlier today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new framework for measuring COVID-19 in the community. Under these new guidelines, Prince William County is now considered to be at a low level. When at this level, the CDC no longer requires masking.
Based on this revised guidance, effective immediately, masks are now optional for all PWCS employees and volunteers working in classrooms. PWCS will adjust these requirements should the community level change. Masks continue to be required by federal rules for adults and students in Head Start Pre-K classrooms.
Additionally, effective today, the CDC no longer requires wearing masks on buses operated by public school systems. As such, masks will now be optional for students and adults on PWCS school buses.
Per the CDC guidance, “employees and students can continue to wear a mask based on personal preference, informed by personal level of risk.” Please note that all PWCS guidance on isolation and quarantine, announced last week, remains unchanged. Visit the PWCS website for further information.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we collectively adjust to this evolving guidance. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Sincerely,
LaTanya D. McDade, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Prince William County Public Schools
IBPYP RE-AUTHORIZATION
On February 14th we were notified that we have been officially reauthorized. A huge thank you to our students, staff, and parents. We can not achieve this status without you. A special thanks to Mrs. Holliday (formerly Ms. Money) for leading us the past two years and to Mrs. Strahan, our IB coordinator this year, who prepared our students, parents, and staff for the presentations to the re-authorization committee. I am so proud and humbled to be the principal of our school. We have the best teachers, students, and parents in PWCS. We are all about supporting one another and it shows in our students.
LEXIA RESOURCE
I can not say enough about this resource. Our students are making a tremendous amount of progress in reading using Lexia consistently. In the fall our school had 76% of our students reading below grade level. To date we have 47% of our students reading below grade level and it is only March 1st. While this is only 1 measure of growth, it shows that used consistently it can make a difference. If you have any questions or would like additional information on how you can help your child/children at home please reach out to your child's teacher. They can provide you with resources to support Lexia.
LOST AND FOUND
If you child is missing a coat, jacket, hat or gloves, please have them check the Lost and Found in the cafeteria. If items are not picked up by March 8th, we will be donating the lost and found items to a shelter.
School Year 2022-2023
As we begin planning for the next school year, it is important that we know your intentions. Please contact Mrs. Ferrandino (ferransm@pwcs.edu) with your intent form if you do not live in our boundaries. Also, if your family is going to move before the next school year, it is important for us to know that information. Thank you for your continued support.
