Scotch Elementary School Receives
Capturing Kids’ Hearts
National Showcase SchoolsTM Award
West Bloomfield, MI - April 9, 2019
Scotch Elementary School has received the Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ National Showcase Schools award for the 2018 - 2019 school year from the Flippen Group.
Four years ago, our school began an initiative to transform the campus into an emotionally safe and relationally connected place for students, staff, and parents to come together with a love for learning. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a process that builds and strengthens relationships with students. This process provides a consistent framework throughout the school where all teachers and students feel a connection with one another, creating a sense of family.
After researching programs used by many of the nation’s most successful schools, Scotch School chose to join hands with the Flippen Group to bring Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ to its school. Teachers and staff learned processes to increase students’ connectedness with both peers and adults on campus, creating classrooms where students are excited to learn every day.
Scotch Elementary School has led the way with Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ in the West Bloomfield School District, and has the distinct honor of being the first public elementary school in the state of Michigan to receive this prestigious award. 100% of the Scotch staff is trained in Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ philosophy and methods and boasts one of the largest CKH Process Champions Teams in the state of Michigan. The Process Champions Team is made up of teacher leaders who help guide our school to develop new and innovative ways to influence and inspire our students and staff.
Through the Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ National Showcase Schools awards, the Flippen Group recognizes and celebrates schools that go the extra mile each day, building an environment where students and staff feel safe and connected. The Flippen Group is proud to recognize the outstanding teachers, staff and administrators who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the lives of our children. They believe the unsung heroes who produce exemplary outcomes in schools and pave the way for other schools to follow, deserve recognition for a job well done. Please celebrate Scotch Elementary School becoming a Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ National Showcase School for the second year!

4th GRADE MUSIC CONCERT
Our 4th Grade concert will be on Wednesday, April 17, at 6:00pm right here at Scotch School. In coordination with the social studies curriculum, we will be presenting a show entitled, “This Land Is Your Land.” It will feature music about the USA and music from American musicians and artists. Students should arrive by 5:45 and meet in their classroom. Attire for the concert is "dressy." Let's all put on a bit of a show and wear our very best to perform.
This is the last call for photos for the concert video. I will be finishing it this weekend. If you have a digital photo of your child some place identifiably in the USA (Disney NYC, the Grand Canyon, Chicago, Hawaii, Toledo), or even doing something we typically do in the USA like shoveling snow, skiing, water activities, etc., please send me a copy at the address below. I’d also like a photo of your child doing something they love to do (sports, arts, family, pets, etc.)
Thanks so much for your help, Carl Battishill, Scotch Music Teacher (carl.battishill@wbsd.org)
