Reusch Report
At SMS, we continue to focus on the "Whole Child". Our strong academic focus is balanced with teaching our students how to live with character and integrity. Read below about 2 programs we are teaching this year:
1. The Courage to Care(TM) Program
The Courage to Care(TM) Program was designed by educators and researchers to address the key issues that cause bullying, meanness, harassment and incivility among middle schoolers. It is based on the assumption that many students today have a deficit in their Social and Emotional Learning. However, instead of confronting this school culture and climate negatively, the program builds on the strengths of each student and engages them in learning how to become more kind, caring, generous and focus on the key skills of empathy, understand power in relationships, and the importance of character development.
2. Building Healthy Futures
Building Healthy Futures, the middle school program, consists of five forty-five minute sessions covered over five days for each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years. The 6th grade curriculum addresses: anatomy and development of the reproductive system; emotional needs, maturity, immediate gratification and decision-making by goal setting; love, infatuation, setting limits and sexual abuse; physical, emotional, mental and social consequences of sexual involvement, including basic HIV/STI information; and social maturity, peer pressure and the effect of media.

The Bulldog golf team finished up its season with a small end of the year party and contests we had a good year considering we were a really young team with no 8th graders. The team was lead this year by a couple of 7th graders, Aidan Grace and Ethan Cole we are looking for big things from them next year.
