Message from Superintendent Gordon
Happy Holidays!
Hello,
I am so proud of our staff. Each day they come to work with the goal of making a difference in the lives of their students. The work is hard, and at times incredibly challenging. When I walk into classrooms to visit or have been asked to participate in some manner, I always leave in awe of how we support our students from preschool through 8th grade. I am also so proud of our support staff who greet community members each day with a smile, work to ensure our buildings are cleaned and ready for learning, and how staff support our students with different needs throughout the school day.
I am proud of our Kindness Campaign and the partnership we forged with Sandy Hook Promise “Start with Hello.” The power of being seen and knowing you belong is one of the most basic human needs. As people, we yearn for connections and inclusion. As the District began our Kindness journey, I received a number of emails from parents telling me their personal stories. Through our kindness efforts, more students are seen and more students are making connections, and more students are included than ever before. We still have work to do to support all students, but I am pleased with our efforts.
I am proud of the multitude of Problem-Based Learning opportunities that our students have participated in throughout the year. Problem-Based Learning allows our students to be creative, collaborate, communicate to solve problems, and engage outside experts to think differently about our world.
I am proud that we recently achieved our highest PARCC scores in our district to date. The 2018 PARCC district scores are better than the majority of our benchmark districts. To see the most recent full Academic Update Report, click here. District 41 is 3rd in English Language growth in DuPage County. In addition, District 41 math growth is 56.3 percent. This is right outside of the top 5 in DuPage County.
I am proud of all the different opportunities we offer our students from daily Spanish, band/orchestra, physical education, music, art, athletics, and all the different clubs. Each and everyone of these are so important to our students.
I am proud and thankful for our community and the support to make this a great district. I always tell people, it is our people that make the difference. We have a great community who understands the importance of education.
Happy Holidays from all of us here in District 41! We look forward to welcoming everyone back on January 7. Wishing everyone a happy and safe winter break.
