A Welcome Back and A Thank You!
Please help me in thanking Jen Besse as her last day in the district will be Tuesday. We appreciate all you have done for PC!
MAP and Amira
From the Assessment Department:
The Elementary ELA and Assessment Departments greatly appreciate the time and effort staff have placed in assessing with Amira for the first time this fall. Maggie Richardson, Rich Wilson, Olathe Tech and HMH have been working together to problem solve issues that continue to arise.
- It is important that buildings put in a SchoolDude ticket (if a WiFi issue) or your Support Specialists (for HMH/Amira concerns). Also feel free to reach out to Maggie or Rich.
- Please keep assessing – but only until the frustration gets too high. It does not feel good when the technology does not work, but it is the only way for us to solve problems.
- If need be, we can extend the Amira assessing window. We set the window, so we have control over any extension.

Conferences
In order to assist in your scheduling, please do the following:
1. Between today and next Friday: Send home communication to your student's families and ask them if they would rather have the conference via zoom or in person. You can do this in anyway that you choose (email, google form, etc.), because this is for your information.
If families are requesting in person and they have multiple children at PC, they will more than likely ask that we have the conferences back to back. This would be something that we should try and accommodate.
I will follow up with all of you with next steps next week after everyone gets the information from parents about their conference preference.
Leader In Me Coach Day - Monday, September 27th
PC Pals - Friday, September 17th!
Patriot and Constitution Day
Patriot Day (20th Anniversary of September 11th) - Patriot Day was designated by joint resolution of the U.S. Congress (PL 107-89) on Dec. 18, 2001, to honor those who perished in the events of September 11, 2001. By Public Law (111-13), adopted April 21, 2009, Congress has requested September 11 also be recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Please keep in mind your students when delivering lessons concerning 9/11 since not all material will be appropriate across all grade levels. Be mindful of what’s appropriate for your students. 9/11 Memorial & Museum has lesson plans for grades 3-12: https://www.911memorial.org/learn/students-and-teachers/lesson-plans Tip: choose a Kansas History, Government, and Social Studies standard to connect your activity just like you’d do with any other lesson. Try standard 1: Choices have consequences, or standard 4: Societies experience continuity and change over time.
Constitution Day (Sept. 17th) - Kansas Statute requires that we celebrate Freedom Week which contains Constitution Day each year, and the Department of Education also has a requirement for us to celebrate Constitution Day. You can celebrate Freedom Week by celebrating Constitution Day on September 17th. (Kansas Statute 72-3233, Section 111(b) of Division J of Pub. L. 108-447, 2005.)Lesson suggestions: National Archives: https://www.archives.gov/news/topics/constitution-day We the People Activities: https://www.hmhco.com/blog/fun-constitution-day-activities-for-the-classroom KSDE - Scroll down to Celebrate Freedom Week and Constitution Day Resources: https://www.ksde.org/Agency/Division-of-Learning-Services/Career-Standards-and-Assessment-Services/Content-Area-F-L/History-Government-and-Social-Studies/Resources
