A Note From Nurse Abby...
Hi Bears!
Hope your week back to school was great! I found this information on the American Heart Association website, and wanted to share with our Bear families. Making healthy food choices starts with knowledge, and I didn’t realize 1 slice of bread was a serving! Those calories add up faster than you think! Eating at home is a great way to better manage your caloric intake.
You may be surprised to learn these are serving sizes:
1 slice of bread
½ cup rice or pasta (cooked)
1 small piece of fruit (super-large apples are 2+ servings)
1 wedge of melon
¾ cup fruit juice
1 cup milk or yogurt
2 oz. cheese (about the size of a domino)
2-3 oz. meat, poultry or fish (this is about the size of a deck of cards)
Stay Healthy,
Nurse Abby
From the Library…
I am enjoying seeing the growth in the kids as we are studying. I believe my most favorite part of this study, so far, is the wall of wishes. Each child has made a wish on a star on how to make the world a better place. Check out some pictures on the "Mrs. April Birmingham Elementary Library" page.
I hope each of you have a wonderful weekend!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. April
