All About Mrs. Hawkinson...School Counselor

Hello students and families,

My name is Kasey Hawkinson and I am the new School Counselor here at Jamaica Elementary. I graduated back in March 2019 from Grand Canyon University with my Masters in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Childhood and Adolescent Disorders. I am originally from San Diego, CA and moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ about 7 years ago. I am married and have 4 boys. I love sports and I myself have played softball since I was 5 years old, currently I play co-ed slow pitch on occasion. I am excited to get to know you and your families and be able to help you to be a successful student here at Jamaica.

How Stress Affects Children & How to Manage It

According to the American Psychological Association, about 20% of children report worrying a great deal. Unfortunately, parents greatly underestimate their child’s emotions. Only 3% of parents rate their child’s stress as extreme, and while 33% of kids experienced headaches in the month prior to the study, just 13% of parents thought these headaches were stress-related.

Here is some books to help your kids manage stress and anxiety during this time.
