Welcome To The New School Year - A Letter From Superintendent, Dr. Peggy Buffington!
All My Life I Want to Be a Brickie! Work! Work! Work!
Brickies are working hard, and it shows! To give you an idea on how the hard work is paying off, let’s look at the impressive early college stats earned at Hobart University (HU) through our partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and our wonderful faculty.
The Hobart High School students boasted these college and career credentials during the 2018-19 school year:
727 students receiving Early College Credits
Total Early College Credits earned: 6,222
Total projected money saved: $874,946.00+
155 students accomplished the 6 credit Career and Technical Education Concentrators in the 2019 graduation class alone!
All high school students have the opportunity to earn HU college and career credits and certifications, along with savings!
We can ensure achievement of students’ goals and dreams because of the incredible opportunities we provide in the School City of Hobart. Hobart University offers a variety of dual credit Early College and Career programs in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College. What is dual credit and Early College and Career? Students who are enrolled in Early College and Career courses are referred to as having “dual credit” classes; meaning students receive high school credit and college credit or career credentials at the same time. These opportunities are constantly evolving, and we are committed to providing innovative courses, programs, and opportunities for our Brickies that are aligned with 21stCentury skills, changes in higher educational demands, and job market trends. We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments through our course offerings. Earning a high school diploma along with college and career credentials is what Hobart University is all about. Opportunities! Our students can earn certifications, one year of college, or an Associate’s Degree (two years)! Let’s Go Brickies!
These Early College and Career opportunities provide a cost-effective, efficient, and engaging way for students to take courses that align with their career interests. Most of these classes are FREE! Students save money and time by enrolling in our Early College and Career program called Hobart University while attending high school. Students are provided with unbelievable opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have until later in life. Visit our website at https://www.hobart.k12.in.us/HU to learn more about these opportunities.
Talk to your children about preparing for Hobart University! Students need to have good grades to be eligible for Early College and Career opportunities. This means students need to do their personal best at every grade level.
We are working hard for the Brickies by fulfilling our vision and mission daily and striving for Success for All Students from Cradle to Career. We pledge the following to our Brickies:
A. Our Schools Equip Children for Adulthood
B. Our Schools Address the Needs of Individual Students
C. Our Schools Are Community Schools
D. Our Schools Are Committed to Success
Our goals toward this mission include the following: Literacy, Problem Solving, Citizenship, and College & Career Readiness. We use a Learning Management System called Canvas along with Skyward, our Student Management System to aid students and parents in monitoring assignments and grades. Both systems have a portal for students and parents that permit access to grades, attendance, discipline, and messaging. Please use these great tools with your youth to keep them on the road to success.
By working together, we can ensure Every Brickie, Every Day will do their personal best and achieve college and career success!
Educationally yours,
Peggy Buffington, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools
