Safety Reminder - Arrival Time
Parking and Student Drop Off and Pick Up
A few areas to note -
For student drop off, it is imperative that students only be dropped off in the loop by the flagpole. The bus loop must be free of cars, and the staff parking lot by the gym is not a safe option to drop off. Thank you for your help in keeping all students safe!
For student pick up, all parents should have students go to the cafeteria and sign them out from there. Currently, we have parents parking in the fire lane during dismissal. Starting in February, our Fire Marshal has warned us that anyone parking in the fire lane by the cafeteria will be subject to ticketing.
STUDENT ABSENCES
Please call in all student absences to the absentee line at 648-3000 by 9:00AM for EACH day your student will be sick. You can also email the office attendance staff directly at monique.harney-parker@vbschools.com or tracy.bly@vbschools.com as well as your student's teacher for any absence.
Also just a reminder regarding early release of students. Students will not be called out of class until a parent is present to sign them out. Thank you for planning ahead with appointments to minimize lost instruction time.
STUDENT ILLNESS
To prevent the spread of disease and to protect your student, please keep your student home and/or make an appointment with your health care provider for the following symptoms:
- temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- severe sore throat, headache, or cough
- eyes with inflammation, redness, and watery or purulent drainage
- live head lice
- diagnosed and/or untreated skin rash
- communicable disease
If a student becomes ill during school, the parent/guardian of the student may be contacted to come and pick up the child. It is important to provide your student's school with updated contact numbers so parents/guardians may be reached concerning illness, as well as emergencies.
Also just a friendly reminder that students should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping everyone stay healthy this winter!

P.E. & Recess News
Not Receiving Text Messages from the School?
Our records indicate that we still have some families not receiving text messages from the school with important reminders. If you have not received any text messages from Lynnhaven or VBSCHOOLS this school year, you may have not yet Opted in to receive text messages. See below for directions on how to Opt In or Opt Out of text messages.
How do I know if I have Opted-in?
You can check if you are opted-in by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587.
How do I opt-out?
You may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
What if I opted-out but later decide I would like to opt-in again?
As long as your child’s school has your text-enabled phone number on record, you may request to begin receiving text messages by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587. If the school does not have your current text-enabled number on record, you will need to contact the school.

SOL Testing
In May and June, students in grades 3-5 will take the Standards of Learning Assessment. For families to plan ahead, below is the testing calendar for each grade level.
As a reminder to our families, on December 10, 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) was signed into law. Section 1112(e)(2) of ESSA states that parents of students in Title I schools have a right to know about state or division policies regarding student participation in any assessments mandated by ESSA, including any policy, procedure, or parental right to opt students out of such assessments. If you would like to receive information about this topic, please contact Mr. Matt Fischi either by phone at (757)648-3000, or in writing at 210 Dillon Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
