LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Have a great summer

May 2023

Hello HMR Families!!

WOW! IT IS MAY!!!

While we are drawing closer to another year ending, we get to celebrate having our school open to families more often, new students and teachers wrapping up their first year working and learning with their HMR Family, and our students learning and growing.

Although the weather has not shown many signs of Spring, our weekly events at HMR certainly do. This month is packed with celebrations, family engagement events, and opportunities for our students to show their greatness as citizens of Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo when they participate in education outside the classroom opportunities.

We want to thank our families for joining our HMR family events! From Explore Music Night to our Gratitude Gala, EL Night, PTA events, and all of the Title 1 Family Night Events. Your presence and sharing your students' excitement about their school has been an honor to share with you. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who set up these opportunities and work so hard to ensure our students and their families have a fun time and walk away with confidence that your student (s) are loved and cared for.

We hope you are able to participate in our May events.

Take Care,

Mrs. Ostrom and Mrs. Shultis

PTA Meeting

We will be holding our May PTA meeting at Roosevelt on Monday, May 8th at 6:15pm. Please come and share your ideas about how we can better strengthen our school community and plan for some PTA events.

Classroom Placement

The attached form is needed to request a classroom assignment for the 2023-2024 school year. The deadline to submit this form is June 2nd. This form will also be available on the HMR school website.

Horace Mann Roosevelt Elementary School

Dear Parent,

You have inquired about a classroom placement for your child for the upcoming school year. As we begin planning classroom groups for the new school year, we appreciate knowing as much as possible about your child’s needs, your expectations, and your concerns. We appreciate your understanding of the criteria we are attempting to use and the limitations we face when classroom assignments are made. We use the following criteria when placing students:

Ø Information from the teachers and parents.

Ø The child’s learning ability and level of achievement.

Ø The child’s learning style and the teaching styles of the staff.

Ø The child’s behavioral profile.

Ø Social-emotional needs of the child and others.

Ø Special needs the child may have.

Ø Various teaching and learning options.

Our goal is to develop productive classroom groups that are balanced in relation to the preceding criteria. We strive to create a group that can work well together with the teacher.

It is most helpful that you provide information about your child and what type of teaching/learning environment you believe is best for your child’s needs. If you feel it is necessary to name teachers by name, you must include at least two names. No requests will be accepted unless there are two names on it. Every effort will be made to honor the request; however, we reserve the right to make the final decision and to deny requests.

Please use the questionnaire on the back of this letter to tell us about your child. All forms must be returned to the office by June 2, 2023. Forms received after June 2, 2023 will not be considered. If you have already written or spoken to anyone about placement, you MUST still complete the form.

Thank you for working with us to provide the best educational experience for your child.

Sincerely,

Leandra Ostrom
Principal
