Week of September 29, 2014
Math
Here we go! This week we start our unit on MULTIPLICATION. This is the heartbeat of the rest of the year's math concepts, so it's pretty important. We will be discussing and practicing different strategies like ARRAYS, PICTURES, REPEATED ADDITION, and SKIP COUNTING to find products. We will start "small" with basic facts and move towards multiplying a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number. It is imperative that your child knows his or her multiplication facts. This unit is virtually impossible without those facts memorized. This week, we are working on our 4's.
3rd Grade - Math In Focus - Multiplication Strategies
4 times tables- multiplication song (and skip counting by 4)
Science
We will be learning how to CLASSIFY and MEASURE mass. This week we are learning how to measure an object's LENGTH. We will be using scientific tools, like rulers and meter sticks to measure in MILLIMETERS, CENTIMETERS and METERS.
