Dear Mustangs,
Welcome to our School Year 2018-2019! It has been a wonderful start and our students have already shared their kindness and leadership skills! It is always thrilling to have our Mustangs return after a hard summer of work and preparation. WELCOME BACK!!!
Please know that starting on Monday morning you will need to sign in with your driver's license or passport to go through the doors of the kiosk during arrival. We now begin our full security precautions during this time as our children have done a great job of modeling going to their designated areas. Even our new 4K students smile and show us where they go!!! I am so proud of our little ones in 4K and 5K!!!
As you can see, safety is our first priority. Please know that we train our students not to open exterior doors to let anyone in as this is the responsibility of adults. We now also have classroom doors that remain locked...you can exit the room but you can't enter unless you have a key. We practice various drills with our students such as fire and tornado drills, lockdowns and lock outs, and more. If your child comes home talking about fire alarms going off or something called lockdowns, please do not be alarmed. We practice these with 100% of our students and staff.
I also need to ask that you write your child's name on lunch boxes, jackets, bookbags, and anything that your child might set down. Items are placed in lost and found. If there is a name this makes it easy to get back to the owner. At the end of each month we take all unclaimed items to another school in need and/or an organization who redistributes to our community members who are in need.
Traffic is improving but please know it takes a couple of weeks for everything to balance out. Be patient, watch closely, and smile! These small acts go a long way with all in keeping our children safe!!!
Bless you all and welcome to Midway!
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway
