10 Days and Counting...

It is hard to believe, but we are only 10 school days away from Winter Break. I don't know about you, but in some ways it's a bit scary that we have already completed one-half of the 2014-2015 school year. I guess the old saying is true, "Time flies when you're having fun."

We challenge you to take a different approach to our remaining ten school days. Let's look at the next 10 days as an "opportunity" rather than just another day or step closer to winter break. Let's ensure that we are all using all of our instructional time to the maximum. Let's continue to work hard and challenge our students each of these last ten days. We know that by putting our best effort into these last two weeks, we'll get the best from our students!

Have a great week!

The Giving Tree...

A “Giving Tree” has been placed on the wall outside of the teacher’s lunchroom. It contains gift tags with a gender, age and gift idea for a LVE student or sibling/ family member in the same household. Some household items have also been included. There are also some gift card tags to take if you would rather donate and let someone else shop for the LVE family.

If you would like to participate, please take one or more tags.

Classroom teachers looking for a service minded project for your students might wish to also participate in this activity. If you would like to individually participate, feel free as well!

It is important to make sure your gift is labeled matching the tag you take. All gifts are due to the counselor’s office labeled accordingly by Friday, December 12th.

Wrapping of gifts is completely up to the individual. There is some wrapping paper in the counselor’s office so feel free to use it as well.

After School Tutoring Begins

The After School tutoring program will begin on Thursday, Dec. 11. The After School Tutoring program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All students who participate in the AST program will be dismissed with Chautauqua students a few minutes before 3:20. All AFT students will report to the multipurpose room at that time for a small snack. Tutors will meet their students in the multipurpose room and then take them to their tutoring locations.

There will be a short meeting Tuesday at 3:40 in the computer lab for tutors. Tutors will have a quick overview of the Read 180 program. The after school tutors are: Katy Eikmann, Courtney Streicher, Abbey Keyes, Troy Gill, Alexa Hanna, Brandy Volling, Nicole Peters and Brian Strokotter.

Instructional Assistant and Para Support Update

We wanted to touch base on our Para/IA Support. Since the beginning of the year, we have been short staffed. We have posted for subs but these positions were not always filled. We were able to hire two new staff members. We would like to officially welcome Jennifer Bushdiecker and Kaela Woods to Lakeview Elementary.

If you have a student in your regular classroom who is to receive support, please speak with your student's case manager when the support is not showing up. This communication can often clear up any confusion. Please know there are times when IAs/Paras are supporting a student who is in crisis. This can keep them from making it.

Open communication is the key! Case managers want to know if support is not there because we know our students need this support.

Where are your students?

Please make sure if any of your students are going some where during recess time that this is communicated in written form to our Recess/Lunch Aides. This should list the student and where his/her location will be during recess time. This information is critical during an emergency or if a parent is trying to pick his/her child up.

Also it is critical that students know they may not go to rooms that don't have a teacher in them during this time. Please remind students of this and make sure you know that the room they are visiting will have a teacher present and is aware they are coming.
