The PUE Sunday Message
Announcements, Resources, & Celebrations 2/4/16 ISSUE NO. 1
The Sunday Message-a New Format for Weekly Announcements
Good evening to all parents and staff. This is Kevin Biles, Principal of Pleasant Union Elementary with announcements for the week of February 6, 2017.
Wake County Public Schools is in the process of expanding the options for communicating with families. This process will include enhanced options for email, text, and voicemail. Over the past two years our collection of the needed information has been comprehensive for Kindergarten and first grade. In order to bring all grades up to the same level of accuracy I need ALL 2nd-5th grade parents to complete the linked Google Form https://goo.gl/izXExt so that we have the data necessary to provide the above parent communication options. Please take 5 minutes to update your information so that we can maximize our communication with you. While we are in transition it is possible that the voicemail version of my message might not come through.
In addition, I will be sharing the communication via a digital newsletter tool called Smore. The newsletter will allow me to provide news, resources, educational stories, pictures and videos from Pleasant Union and around the world in a more visual manner. Please let me know what you think of the new format by emailing me at kbiles@wcpss.net.
The Week Ahead
Earlier in the day on Friday our students will be treated to a music group called Moscow Nights The K-2 assembly will begin at 9:30 and the 3rd-5th graders at 10:30. If you are a track 3 family, students with a parent are welcome to join us.
Need Your Help
Our 5th grade is preparing for their artist in residence. The students will be making a coral reef for the Pleasant Union Makerspace during the week of February 13th. They have received many of the needed materials but need several more of the items listed below. If you would so kind to consider helping fifth grade by looking at the needed items listed below and contributing to the cause on the Sign Up Genius we would be most appreciative.
Here is what is still needed:
- Feather dusters: 6
- Feather Boa: 5
- Paper Egg Cartons- as many as parents can bring in. This would be a great area for the school email, if any parent can bring one, this will help to fill this one!
- White Latex-Free Medical Gloves- need 200
- Multi-Color Pipe Cleaners- 200
- Fabric, Yarn and Ribbon Scraps- the more the merrier
- Solid Colors tissue paper- still need about 100 sheets
The Teacher’s Lounge is transitioning to both a student learning area and for use at lunch time. New, flexible, mobile furniture has been ordered as part of the change. We also will be painting the room later this week. If you can spare some time this Friday to help with this please contact PTA VP Susan Gowland (sgowland.pue@gmail.com) or Technology Facilitator Annette Hymel (ahymel@wcpss.net).
Reminders:
This Friday is an EARLY RELEASE. Students will be dismissed at 1:15.
Stepnoski Sea Turtles using PBL & 4Cs in Makerspace.
Great Project Based Learning (PBL) going on in the Makerspace on Friday with Mrs. Stepnoski's sea turtles. Students had to collaborate in groups to create a plan for making an umbrella that would protect a stuffed animal. Lots of 4Cs (creativity, critical thinking, communication & collaboration) involved.
