A Message from the Cary Chamber of Commerce
Excellence in teaching – we know it when we see it. It can be the teacher who spends extra time with the students who need it most, or the teacher who is creative enough to inspire a real love of learning in a student. Perhaps it’s a teacher who cares enough to be involved with his or her students beyond the classroom. Whatever their methods, certain teachers make a real impact on students and their learning abilities. We would like to recognize one such teacher at your school and we need your help. T
he Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities. One of the most critical needs of Wake County schools is that of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers. With our Honor a Teacher Program we hope to help our school system in meeting that challenge. Building on the success of the Discovery Award first sponsored by the Ashworth family in 1991, followed by the Clara Knoll Award in 2000 by Barry and DJ Mitsch, the Cary Chamber has secured sponsors to develop a teaching awards program for all schools in the Cary Area.
We are asking parents and faculty to nominate teachers for this award. Nominations must be received no later than Tuesday, March 24th at 5pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to five finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee. We will honor all of the nominees and announce the recipient at a celebration at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park on Monday, May 11th from 6:00-7:30pm. This year, we have created an online nomination form that can be found on the Cary Chamber’s website under our “News and Events” tab, https://www.carychamber.com/honor-ateacher-applications-2020.html.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you for your help!

AIG Updates - Winter 2020
SINGLE SUBJECT ACCELERATION (SSA)
It's that time of year again when we start to think about next school year's academics. Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is an option to consider for students that have demonstrated a need for advanced curriculum/acceleration of one grade level above their current grade level. These would be students that have demonstrated Level 4 work throughout this school year and have demonstrated a need for advanced curriculum in multiple learning standards. SSA is offered both in English Language Arts and in Math, but you may only chose one subject to nominate your student. Attached are some links that will helpful to determine if your student would be a good candidate. If you are thinking about the SSA program, please consult your students' classroom teacher for their input. They know your child's academic needs best and would be best to tell you if your child would be a good candidate. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to email our AIG Teacher and SSA Coordinator, Amy Stone at astone@wcpss.net.
SSA Nomination Window is only OPEN for ONE week this year!
Track 1 - February 24th - 28th
