ParentVUE at the Kindergarten Center at Pike Lake
Partnership between home and school is essential to the success of each child. Teachers in Mounds View Public Schools utilize a variety of ways of communicating a child’s progress with parents including face-to-face meetings, emails, phone calls, notes, and an online website called ParentVUE.
ParentVUE is a website that offers parents secure and private access to school and student information, including assignments, grades, attendance and FeePay (online access to student lunch accounts and registering for activities). A web link to ParentVUE is found on the homepage for the Kindergarten Center at Pike Lake (www.moundsviewschools.org/pikelake) in the banner on the top of the page. Parents can also download the ParentVUE app on their mobile device.
ParentVUE is used by teachers in kindergarten through high school in Mounds View Public Schools so that progress can be monitored across their educational journey. Parents with multiple children in our schools will see a tab for each child within ParentVUE.
Classroom teachers at the Kindergarten Center at Pike Lake will soon start to enter assignments in reading and math. Specialist teachers will soon enter an assignment in their respective content areas (i.e., music, art, P.E., science, and social studies). The assignments entered in ParentVUE represent some of the most essential learning but do not represent all learning in the content area. Teachers will have at least one assignment entered in their content area by the end of semester 1 (end of January).
Assignments in ParentVUE are based upon the Minnesota Kindergarten Academic Standards https://education.mn.gov/MDE/dse/stds/, which are academic expectations to be met by the end of the school year. Scores are based on a 1-2-3 system where:
1 = beginning (based on end-of-year expectations)
2 = developing (based on end-of-year expectations)
3 = secure (based on end-of-year expectations)
Because teachers are grading students based on end-of-year expectations, it is common at the middle of the year for students to receive grades of mostly “2”. It is a goal for all students to be secure and receiving a score of “3” in all areas by the end of the school year.
If you have not yet logged into ParentVUE, and need an access code, please visit our website at www.moundsviewschools.org/pikelake and select the tab “Parent Resources” → “ParentVUE Help”.
Again, the information in ParentVUE is a summary of some of the most essential learning goals throughout the year but does not represent all learning. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you for your continued partnership!
