A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
Today was a remarkable day as we witnessed our talented fourth and fifth-grade students' creative writing come to life! Earlier this school year, our students wrote captivating stories, which were then submitted to the Barberton Magical Theater for review. We are thrilled to announce that two of our students, Ruby Roberts and Sophia Driscoll, had their stories selected to be adapted into captivating plays that were performed today at school.
It was heartwarming to see the entire Suffield community come together to celebrate the accomplishments of these budding writers. The students, staff, and families were all thrilled to see Ruby and Sophia's imagination brought to life on stage. We congratulate all the students who contributed their fantastic writing, and we extend our gratitude to the PTA for their unwavering support of this program.
This initiative is just one example of how our PTA's fundraising efforts are making a positive impact on our students' education. We look forward to continuing to provide more opportunities for our students to showcase their creativity and talent.
As we prepare for the coming weeks ahead, I want to remind parents and guardians of some important dates and events:
Thursday, April 6th: This is the last day of school before spring break. Report cards will come home this day.
April 7th-14th: Spring break! We hope that our students and families take this time to relax, recharge, and spend quality time together.
Monday, April 17th: School resumes. We will be diving right back into our academic activities.
Wednesday, April 19th & 20th: Third, fourth, and fifth graders will be taking the Ohio State Test in ELA-English Language Arts. If your child will not be in attendance for any of these days, please notify the school office as soon as possible!
Tuesday, April 25th & Wednesday, April 26th: Fifth graders will be taking the Ohio State Test in Science.
Tuesday, May 2nd: There will be NO SCHOOL due to voting in our schools. Teachers will be involved in professional development that day.
Thursday, May 4th & Friday, May 5th: Third, fourth, and fifth graders will be taking the Ohio State Test in Math.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Bookman
Biking was a HUGE success!
Suffield's kindergarten and first-grade students have just completed their PE unit on bike riding with exceptional success. We are proud to announce that almost all students have mastered the art of riding a bike without any training wheels. This achievement is all thanks to the tireless efforts of Mrs. Wilson, who worked hard to bring this fantastic program to our students.
Parents, if your child doesn't have a bike yet, we highly recommend you get one for them soon so they don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to learn how to ride. Our school provides an excellent place to practice riding after school on the sidewalks or in the parking lot when it's clear.
We are thrilled to share a photo of Miss Kear's class, who all proudly report a 100% success rate in learning to ride a bike. Congratulations to all the students who participated and to our district for making this possible!

HELP Wanted
Upcoming Test Dates
We want to inform our parents and guardians that our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students will be taking the Ohio State Test in ELA - English Language Arts on April 19th and 20th. As we strive to create the best testing environment for our students, we kindly ask that you avoid scheduling any appointments for your child on these dates. Research shows that students perform better when taking the test on the designated testing day, rather than during a make-up session.
Here are the additional Ohio State Testing dates to help you plan accordingly:
Grade 5 only: SCIENCE - April 25th & 26th
Grade 3 - 5: MATH - May 4th & 5th
We appreciate your support in ensuring our students are well-prepared and ready to perform their best on these important assessments.
Class Assignments 2023-2024
Discussions regarding class placements for the 2023-2024 school year are currently underway. We want to assure parents and guardians that our staff takes great care in placing students in an appropriate learning environment that will best meet their needs.
If you have any specific educational concerns for your child, please address them in writing and send them to the office, attention to Mrs. Bookman. Please include any learning environments that you feel may work well for your child. We do not accept or consider requests for specific teachers, as we strive to create heterogeneous classes with a balance of genders and student needs.
We use a research-based system that is proven to promote the most growth for all students. Therefore, it is essential that all letters are received in the office no later than Friday, April 21, 2023, to have your concerns addressed. Any notification received after this date will not be accepted.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work towards creating a supportive and successful learning environment for all students.

Counselor's Corner - A Note From Miss Livers
Anxiety in Children
Anxiety, there are many different things the parents and guardians can do to help their child when they are feeling anxious. Your student is not alone, childhood anxiety has been becoming more common with over 4.4 million children from ages 3-17 being diagnosed with anxiety. Here are some things you can do to support your child when they are feeling anxious:
- Remind your child that their feelings are valid and okay. Give them time and space to share how they feel without judgment.
- Set a time each day/week to talk about their worries.
- Help your child focus on what they can control.
Help your child develop ways to cope with and manage their anxiety, such as:
- Deep breathing
- Talking to you or another adult
- Journaling or drawing
- Focusing on what they can control
- Using positive self-talk
- Exercising

Dates to Remember:
Birthday Treats
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently came out with guidelines and a list of healthy foods that schools are being asked to serve in place of cookies, candy, and other less healthy foods. Schools are encouraged to follow these guidelines, not only with food being sold but with any food being brought into the school. You are strongly encouraged to send in healthy snacks for birthday treats and/or holiday parties when requested.
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
Buy your pencils and notebooks at school
Just a reminder that your child can purchase pencils, gel pens, and notebook pads at school! These are fun designs for the kids! The pencil/pen/notebook machines are located by the recess door.
Prices are:
Pencils - $.25
Gel Pens - $.50
Notebooks - $.75
