Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills. In February, in observance of Black History Month, every week will highlight a Black musician.
From Principal, Dra. Cárdenas
Esteemed RHE Community,
We finished up our week with an extravagant RHE College & Career Fair Day! Ask your child to tell you about their experience, what careers they visited and which one interested them the most. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing our students actively participating in the event, asking questions and overall enjoying the exposure they had to a wide variety of careers and the high school opportunities they will have when they get to our High School P-TECH campus! We see a bright future ahead for you Bobcats!
Upcoming this week our Kinder students will be taking a mid-Spring iReady Reading and Math assessment to show the progress they've made since the middle-of-year assessment in December. Our Kinder teachers will communicate those results with parents right after Spring Break.
This upcoming week is also a big week for our 3rd & 4th graders who will be taking their Reading Language Arts and Mathematics Spring Benchmarks. These tests give our students an opportunity to feel what the STAAR test will be like. Students have this opportunity to practice the strategies they have been taught to solve the questions in a full-length assessment. Teachers will use the data to develop an instructional plan that most closely addresses the students' needs. Our teachers will be in close communication with our parents on their child's progress. Parents, do not hesitate to reach out as needed. We are here with your child's best interest in mind.
I hope everyone has a marvelous week!
At Your Service,
Dra. Betty A. Cárdenas
