Happy Valentine's Day Band Families!

February is almost over which means March is almost here! With that comes several upcoming events and performances that you won't want to miss. There are some new and traditional events that we want to make sure you are aware of and hope you can join us for this season. Please read this entire newsletter for important information regarding all upcoming Band dates.



Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Solo & Ensemble Contest is Thursday, February 20th, from 6-8:00 PM at Fenton H.S. All events will take place in the music rooms. Students soloists and ensembles will perform for a judge and receive a clinic/workshop afterwards. Families and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend these performances. Participating students should familiarize themselves with the S&E Rules and Procedures sheet here.

Mr. Dan Valkema to visit FHS Bands!

Mr. Dan Valkema, director of bands at Plainfield Central H.S. (retired) will be visiting the Fenton H.S. Bands on Friday, February 21st during the band classes. He will be sharing his expertise with us in a workshop setting.

Carl Sandburg High School Concert Band Festival

The FHS Symphonic Wind Ensemble will be attending and performing at the Carl Sandburg High School Concert Band Festival on Saturday, February 29th at 10:00 AM. The Symphonic Winds is using this festival to get valuable feedback from an excellent judging panel as well as a great performance recording to be used for our Superstate application. Families and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend this event. The working itinerary is available here.


There is a tentative dress rehearsal scheduled (if needed) for Friday, February 28th from 3:30-5:00 PM in the Fenton Band room.

Tri-District Band Festival

The Tri-District Band Festival will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 6:30 PM. Both the Concert Band and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will be performing at this event. We are excited to welcome the Blackhawk Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Band and the Wood Dale Junior High Symphonic Band to perform as well. Families and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend this concert! This performance will be a band festival format with three judges in the audience giving educational feedback to the students.


A few details regarding this event:

Jazz Ensemble to Perform at the Quarry in Lemont

The Fenton Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the Quarry in Lemont on Wednesday, March 25th at approximately 6:30 PM. They will be opening for the Brass Tracks Big Band! The FJE will enjoy dinner, perform, and then listen to the first set of Brass Tracks. Familes and friends are welcome to attend this event! For more information about the Quarry, click here.

Pit Orchestra for "Sister Act" the musical!

Preparations are under way for "Sister Act" the musical, and that means the Pit Orchestra begin rehearsals in March. We are still looking for two clarinet players and one percussionist to join the Pit Orchestra. If interested, please email Mr. George. Click here for a Pit Orchestra calendar.

P.S. Save the dates

The Young Musicians Mentor Band will be coming to the Bensenville Wood Dale communities this summer. The current plan is to have a one week camp from 1-4:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday June 15-18 with a concert the evening of June 18th. More information to come!
