Asteroids, comets, and meteroids
Asteroids
Asteroids are minor planets, especially those of the inner Solar System. There are three types of asteroids: Carbon, Metal, and Silicon.
Comets
Comet
A comet is an icy small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun, heats up and begins to outgas, displaying a visible atmosphere.
Halleys comet
Halleys comet is the best-known of the short-period comets and is visible from Earth every 75–76 years.
Parts of a comet
You have the nucleus, the coma, and the dust tail. When a comet orbits the sun the dust tail always faces away from the sun.
Meteoroids
Meteor
A meteor is the visible streak of light from a meteoroid or micrometeoroid, heated and glowing from entering the Earth's atmosphere.
Meteorite
A meteorite is a solid piece of debris, from such sources as asteroids or comets, that originates in outer space and survives its impact with the Earth's surface.
Meteoroid
A meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body travelling through space. Meteoroids are significantly smaller than asteroids.
