Excited for spring
Greetings Woodcrest families,
Over the next few months, more and more of our students’ learning and new language skills begin to blossom. From their social emotional development to how they express what they have been learning and their language skills.
Last week, I had a fun example of growth and advocacy. Third grade students presented a petition to me for the school to be more environmentally friendly. Their efforts to share their thinking and hopes both in Spanish and English and written and verbal was very well done. This growth is exciting to witness and is happening across grade levels. I hope you can see this growth and excitement in your children at home as well.
In addition to all the opportunities to see students’ growth in the day-to-day experience at Woodcrest, our elementary students also participate in a series of assessments this spring. Kinder through second grade students are wrapping up their spring MAP assessments.
Starting the week of April 11, our third and fourth grade students will be participating in the Minnesota Comprehensive Exam (MCA). As May begins, we will be working with fourth grade students on the ACTFL Assessment of Performance towards Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) exam. The AAPPL exam is an exam used across different grade levels to monitor student language development.
These assessments are only a part of our work to constantly monitor levels of learning and adjust our teaching practices. Your child’s homeroom teacher has a deep understanding of how your child is doing with regards to their learning. If you have not had the chance to see them, report cards for the end of trimester 2 are posted Campus Parent Portal. If you have questions about any of these assessments or your child’s learning progress, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.
With today’s icy roads and weather, I hope you find comfort in knowing that we have warmer days ahead.
Con gratitúd,
John Franke

Dine-to-Donate - Success!
Thank you very much to all who joined us at Leeann Chin's last week and helped us raise $110 for staff and student support!
Mileage Club
Each spring, WCSI PTO sponsors Mileage Club for all students. During recess, they may choose to run around a painted track outside to earn toe tokens (charms that look like feet) to wear on their provided lanyards.
We are currently looking for two co-coordinators to arrange volunteers and prize distribution...talk to the board and we will get you everything you need! We are also looking for several volunteers to monitor running and help with prize distribution during each school day the program is running (Tentatively M/W/F from April 18-May 27). Sign up for the Mileage Club committee in Konstella to stay in the loop!
Wednesday Morning Volunteers
After two years, PTO is once again starting up our Wednesday Morning Volunteer Committee! This group gets together from 9:15-11:45 a.m. each week to help WCSI staff with projects such as pencil sharpening, cutting, art hanging, display making, library help and more. Many hands make light work so bring your favorite beverage and be ready for fun conversation! This group is flexible, come the times and weeks that you can. Please let us know if you'd like to co-chair this committee. For more details, sign up on Konstella!
PTO Meeting - Save the date
Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. is our next PTO meeting. We will discuss exciting spring volunteer opportunities and learn about how to get involved with committee chair and board positions for the 2022-2023 school year.
