GREAT NEWS!!!!!
Please join me in welcoming Ruth Morris as the newest member of our team. Ruth starts her new position as Assistant Principal of Culver City Adult School, effective July 1, 2019.
Ruth Morris began her career at CCUSD nearly twenty years ago, as a lecturer for Culver City Adult School, where she taught Japanese to adults for the fee-based enrichment program. For the past five years, she has been a Programs Coordinator, assisting the principal of Culver Park High School, CCUSD iAcademy and Culver Park High School with all aspects of school administration, with a focus on student and teacher support, and curriculum development. In her current position, Ruth has also coordinated public relations efforts, including community partnership building, website development and maintenance, and writing for Culver Currents in Print. As WASC Coordinator for Culver Park High School, Ruth’s organizational and writing skills guided the school through a successful WASC accreditation process in 2018. Her work as UC-CSU A-G Course List manager has been instrumental in improving the rigor of courses taught at Culver Park, and establishing direct articulation with nearby colleges.
In addition to teaching Japanese at night since fall of 1999, Ruth was hired as a bilingual substitute teacher for El Marino and other campuses for school year 2001-2002, and this sealed the transition from her career in international travel and tourism to education. Ruth then attended Pepperdine University, earning three teaching credentials and a Master of Arts in Education. Upon graduation in 2004, she was hired mid-year as a teacher of English and Japanese at Culver City Middle School. During her tenure at CCMS, she held several teacher-leader positions including Team Leader and English Department Chair, and she was master teacher to nearly twenty student teachers from LMU, Pepperdine, USC and Northridge. She also proudly served as GATE Coordinator for nine out of her ten years there.
Having earned an administrative credential in 2007, and a certificate in Organizational Leadership in 2017, Ruth functions as administrative designee for three school sites, stepped in briefly as Interim Assistant Principal of Culver City Middle School, and has served as Program Administrator for Culver City Adult School’s Summer Enrichment 4 Kids program for the past four summers.
Ruth is a native Los Angeleno, with a BA in Linguistics and Japanese from UCLA. She sits on three district committees: the District Community Arts Team, the Front and Center Theatre Collaborative, and the CTE Advisory Committee. Ruth is known to be an arts integration specialist, and currently serves as LACOE’s TEAL Coordinator for CCUSD. Ruth is a Culver City homeowner, and the mother of two CCUSD graduates (SFSU ’16, UC Berkeley ’19).

Congratulations to all students who are promoting to the high school diploma program. We are proud of you! Your hard work and dedication paid off.
ESL News
Students! We are having Summer School morning and evening in July. It is SOooOoOOo important to keep studying English during summer or you will forget much of what you learned this year. Ask your teacher for details if you haven't signed up. In the morning, it's an excellent opportunity to work on Listening/Speaking skills. In the evening, we have Listening/Speaking for beginners and intermediate students, as well as Reading/Writing (for intermediate students only).
We also have Distance Learning in the summer with Jose Lopez M-Th from 12:00-1:00. Take advantage of this free program that you can work on at home. The students who do Distance Learning and ESL classes consistently learn English faster.
Also remember to get a library card! The library has a lot of computers where you can review your work from the semester online; read at Southwestabe.org; review your basic alphabetics and reading skills at Starfall.com; or learn to type at Typingclub.com. It also has a lot of online reading and language programs you can explore.
You should all feel very proud of yourselves for committing to learning and to your future. We are all very proud of our students and want to help you meet your life goals!! See you this summer or this fall! Congratulations on all of your hard work and progress.
