Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 01.07.22
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
We are finishing out the first week of 2022 and we are hoping that everyone is continuing with their resolutions. Here at GRS we resolved that we would get students to a 6-foot distance in the cafeteria and we are pleased to announce that we will be able to do this starting Monday. With hiring, changing some lunchtimes by no more than 10 minutes, and having some grade levels do recess first we will be able to accomplish this goal. This is great news since this will allow us to not have to contact trace in the cafeteria and have students quarantine!
We have a new Polar Bear in the front office! Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Cindy Stark. Mrs. Stark has replaced Mrs. Regan as our part-time administrative assistant. She comes to us with a great deal of experience working in schools and we are so lucky that she is joining us. Be sure to say hi the next time you are in the building.
Wow! It's cold outside! Please know that we adhere strictly to the outside recess weather guidelines. If the weather permits ALL students will be outside during these times. Dressing appropriately is very important on really cold days. Also, we only allow students to play out in the snow if they have snow pants and snow boots on.
Have a great weekend and check out all the info below.
Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Reinhardt
Cold Weather Policies
During these very cold days please be sure your child comes to school dressed in warm clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, boots, etc. Although it might not be warm enough to go outside every day, whenever we can, we do get the children outside for some fresh air. The District policies on cold weather are as follows: 15 degrees or warmer – unlimited time outdoors; 0 – 15 degrees - 20 minutes outdoors; Below 0 - remain indoors
PTA Meeting
*Save The Snowman Contest EXTENDED!! Now Due 1-11-2022 *
Need something to do when it's too cold outside? CHECK OUT our Save The Snowman GR Library Contest, Due 1-11-2022. Save your snowman from melting in the sun by following these steps:
- Pick up a snowman outline from the GR library OR print one by clicking here --> bit.ly/snowmanproject2022
- Disguise your snowman as a character from a book you have read. Use crayons, pipe cleaners, paint, feathers, colored paper, etc. to be as creative as you'd like.
- On the back, write student first and last name, class code (grade and teacher, like 2T), the character's name, and the book title that your character came from.
- Turn in to the GR Library by 1-11-2022. Prizes will be awarded the next week.
Polar Bear Players - The Lion King
We had a great first week of rehearsals! Cast members received their scripts and January schedules. There is an important Parent Meeting this upcoming Wednesday, January 12th over ZOOM at 6:30pm. This meeting is for all CAST and CREW parents. One of the biggest items on the agenda is our volunteer sign up sheets. We could not do this show if it wasn't for all of our wonderful parent support. If you have any questions feel free to email Miss Wyman ewyman@d47.org Zoom Link: click here Cast January Schedule Cast Calendar View
Coming Soon.... Kids Heart Challenge
As always the American Heart Association thanks our Glacier Ridge students and families for their support.
Harry Potter Club
We had a great start to Harry Potter Club! If your child is a Harry Potter Club member, please be sure that ALL changes to attendance need to be entered on the CHANGES form before NOON each Wednesday. If your child is not at school, will be late, needs to leave early, etc. it is important to fill out the form so we can account for every student. Thank you in advance. Questions? Email grharrypotterclub@gmail.com.
It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's SUPER Library!
Happy New Year and Happy READING!! Here is information about TWO Winter Reading Programs:
Want to get a head start on our SUPER Reading Incentive? Students who complete reading activities and get BINGO on our "Winter Break Reading Bingo" board, can get a complimentary ticket to a Chicago Wolves game. Bingo boards and Wolves Game order forms (on the back) were sent home with every student in December. Call or mail in the Wolves Game order form for free tickets for every child that completed BINGO for game dates from January through April.
The Crystal Lake Public Library Winter Reading Program (Waddle You Read?) runs from January 17 through March 13. ANY student who attends school in Crystal Lake (along with their siblings) can participate in the Public Library Program. Information was presented during Encore classes on Thursday and Reading Logs were sent home. After 600 minutes, students earn a book and a stuffed animal! For more information, go to https://www.clpl.org/.
Minutes will count for BOTH reading programs. For now, KEEP READING!
In Library class this week, we made resolutions. Our school is working to bring books back on time and to try to read different types of books. Please be sure your child brings their library books to school (and to the library) on their class's library day. If you cannot find a book, or a book is damaged, please email gwjohnston@d47.org and we will send information about replacing the book. THANK YOU!

Attached are copies of the Kindergarten Posters in English and Spanish. These flyers have been updated to include information regarding the New Online Registration procedure.
Please share this information with parents by posting in your building as well as including it in your newsletters. This information is also posted on the district website.
Encore for Remote Learners
All remote learners can go to this link for Encore Classes. bit.ly/grencoreremote <-- This link is a choice board for each Encore Class. There are hundreds of options for your child to try, enjoy, and come back again. Your child can send messages to Encore Teachers and can post photos of activities on Seesaw. Each Encore Teacher's email address is listed, too. Please email if you have any questions.
Submit Student Vaccination Status
If your child has received the COVID-19 vaccine, please provide proof of vaccination by dropping off a copy of your child's vaccination record at the school’s main office or by scanning and emailing it to the school. (Visit the D47 website for your school’s medical records email address.) Student vaccination status is requested to ensure proper protocols are followed in the event of a COVID-19 exposure or outbreak. If deemed a close contact, students who have been vaccinated will NOT need to quarantine unless they are symptomatic or test positive for COVID-19. If a student is vaccinated and the district does not have proof of vaccination on file, the student will be treated as if they were unvaccinated and be subject to contact tracing and quarantine.
