The Principal's Post
Vol. 3, Issue 4 - November 2020
PGE- Preparation, Goodwill, & Excellence
The Principal’s Post runs once a month with weekly updates included in the grade level newsletters. Below are the newest dates, resources, and happenings.
General Information
Wonderful Parents and Guardians,
As shared last month, a different educational environment has existed since COVID and that the faculty and staff are working steadily to make up for the lost focused instructional time. While the research projected that students across the nation would have declining reading and math scores, I am pleased to report that our first MAP data indicated that most of our students are on target with their academic goals at this time! This is quite an accomplishment for our campus and could not have been done without the efforts of our teachers, parents, and students! Remember, a decline was projected and more than half are are target.
These scores also support the data taken from RazKids and DreamBox. In all three measures, students are making progress.
To bring more clarity to this, I would like to share "What does this mean?" "How can parents help?" "What is the school doing in this endeavor?"
First - On target indicates that students are current with their education goals; however, they are not "next grade ready." It takes a full year to get grade ready - we are not done! The curriculum the school is using is focused on growth.
Third - If you have concerns, questions or want to know more, please ask us! We are here to help you. (Facebook is a nice place to exchange ideas, photos, and events; but, it really isn't a great place to learn "how something works.") We'd love the opportunity to help you have the information to feel great about your child's school!
Working together our students will achieve more.
Wishing you all good health and much happiness,
Marci Formby
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Starting this month, November, and until the end of the 2020-2021 school year, all students will have the ability to receive a free breakfast and lunch. Tray lunches will consist of protein, grain, fruit, and vegetable options. A la carte items will still be available for purchase.
Also ask your child about having at least one cafeteria meal – Thanksgiving! As an unofficial school tradition many cafeterias go “all out” for the Thanksgiving meal and our cafeteria is no different!! So, mark your calendar for November 18th!!
Free meals will also be available to Remote@KISD learners via Sodexo’s curbside service at Keller ISD’s four comprehensive high schools:
· Central High School, 9450 Ray White Road
· Fossil Ridge High School, 4101 Thompson Road
· Keller High School, 601 Pate Orr Road North
· Timber Creek High School, 12350 Timberland Boulevard
Curbside meal service will continue to be provided from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday, or families can pick up five days of meals from 5-6 p.m. each Wednesday evening. Community members under the age of 18 can also take advantage of this curbside service.
