Dear CPS Parents and Guardians,

The first day of school is this month—Monday, August 30, 2021!

We are excited to welcome students back to school, and the health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. To ensure the safety of everyone, here are the health guidelines that will be in place this school year.:

• Masks or cloth face coverings will still be required to be worn indoors by everyone, regardless of vaccination status, except for while eating or drinking.

• Three feet of social distancing will be maintained whenever possible.

• A hybrid lunch distribution model will be used to ensure social distancing is maintained while students are eating.

• To help maintain social distancing during breakfast and lunch, students might eat in the cafeteria or their classroom..

• During school hours and night shifts, custodial staff will continue to provide additional sanitation and deep cleaning of common areas.

We recognize that some students who meet our medical fragility requirements may still need to learn remotely. These students can enroll in the Virtual Academy, a fully-remote, central model of instruction.

Please note, the application window for Virtual Academy was closed on August 6. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for students who had delayed access to medical care, are new to the district, or have new diagnoses. We encourage all eligible students to contact their healthcare provider and apply as soon as possible.

Chicago Public Schools will host three town hall meetings for the public in mid-August. The town hall meetings will cover an introduction from Interim CEO Dr. Torres and Interim CEdO, Dr. Swinney, as well as updates from our Office of Student Health and Wellness, Facilities and Operations, and Academics teams.
