Lots of information in this issue

There is so much to communicate. We hope this is not overwhelming. We do our best to keep you informed. Please remember to send in your PICTURE DAY FORMS and your SCHOOL SURVEY. Below, we have also posted links to CPE II Notes archives, the CPE II Family Handbook and the sign up for the parents' email group.

New Assistant Principal at Middle School

I am happy to announce that we now have an Assistant Principal (IA) full time at the Middle School. His name is Bill Gladstone. He has a great deal of experience. I know him from when we worked together at the Community Service Academy Middle School in Washington Heights. I was the Director and he was in charge of Community Service. He then moved on to teach for many years, before becoming an administrator. He is an advocate for social and environmental justice, and, of course, for children.

Theresa will continue as the Assistant Principal in the Elementary School. She will also continue to support our literacy work across all grades.

New Custodian

For many, many years our school building has been under the temporary care of rotating custodians, who are permanent and full time at other schools. Due to the diligent work of a group of parents, we are in a new program AND we will have a FULL TIME CUSTODIAN for our school building starting Monday, March 28th.

Workshop for Kindergarten Parents

Your children now read from their Book Baggies everyday. Soon, they will start bringing them home. How will you support your child? What are the "DOs" and "DON'Ts"? On Monday March 21st from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM we are inviting all Kindergarten parents for a Workshop with Theresa about what to do when the Book Baggies come home. We will also have a special guest, Suzanne. She will talk to you about our Linguistic Phonics work. Light refreshments will be served. Hope you can be there.

What's Happening in Our Classrooms

I am including an article about the importance of happiness in the classroom. Through our participation in a variety of programs including, Emotionally Responsive Practice, Responsive Classroom, restorative practices, and creating caring communities, we work to support students in understanding why caring and cooperation are essential for our school. We also provide, of course, multiple opportunities for students to be engaged in great curricular work.

Empathy Building Work

As part of our Empathy Building Work with the creating caring communities program, CPE II Staff are participation in ongoing professional development to learn games and approached that build empathy. Here Middle Schoolers engage in one of our Empathy games.
